Its first season was a hit but is Tidying Up With Marie Kondo season 2 happening? Japanese decluttering expert Marie Kondo rose to fame following the publication of her book The Life-Changing Magic of Tidying Up which introduced the masses to the KonMari Method – the process of sorting one’s possessions into categories and only keeping things that “spark joy.” To date, the book has been published in over 30 countries and sold millions of copies worldwide, alongside spending several weeks ranked at the top of the New York Times Best Seller List.
The KonMari Method and “spark joy” ethos got even more popular when Netflix teamed with the organization consultant to produce Tidying Up With Marie Kondo – an eight-episode series that saw Kondo help eight American families declutter their households and lives. Not only did the show earn Kondo an Emmy nomination in the category of Outstanding Host for a Reality or Competition Program, it also inspired viewers across the globe to declutter their own lives and give their unwanted items to thrift stores – some of which reported a massive increase in donations after Tidying Up With Marie Kondo aired.

However, since the show’s first run on Netflix in 2019 there hasn’t been any word of a second season happening. So, will Netflix be streaming Tidying Up With Marie Kondo season 2 anytime soon? Here’s what we know.
Tidying Up With Marie Kondo Season 2 Isn’t Happening
Unfortunately, there is no Tidying Up With Marie Kondo season 2 on the cards at the moment but the good news is that Netflix is teaming with Kondo to make a brand-new reality seriesinstead.
As reported by Deadline in early 2020, the show is titled Sparking Joy With Marie Kondo and will be produced by Alfred Street Industries, a production company set up in 2019 by Project Runway talents Dan Cutforth and Jane Lipsitz who will executive produce the new series alongside Marie Kondo, her husband Takumi Kawahara and Below Deck producer Dan Volpe.
Sparking Joy With Marie Kondo Details & Release Date
The show certainly sounds like a worthy successor to Tidying Up With Marie Kondo and a lot more ambitious in scale too. Rather than focus on individual families and households, the new series will see Marie Kondo work her KonMari magic on a whole American town. Community members were invited to nominate their own small town for consideration via the website tidymytown.com by submitting an application detailing why their town was deserving of a KonMari makeover.Netflix has yet to confirm a release date for Sparking Joy With Marie Kondo but it’s still early days and, as with a lot of upcoming shows, it’s likely the COVID-19 pandemic has delayed production. In the meantime, keep checking in with Screen Rant for more updates on the show's status.
