Removing non greasy stains with baking soda
Non greasy stains are more simple to remove from carpet and rugs with baking soda - just follow these easy steps:
- Vacuum the carpet first to remove dust, dander and loose soil from the area
- Sprinkle plenty of baking soda on the stained area
- Use a warm, damp tea towel or cloth (not dripping wet) over the baking soda to cover it
- Leave the carpet for at least an hour (leave it longer for better results) in order to allow time for the soda to works its magic
- Vacuum the carpet carefully, in the direction of the pile until all ok the baking soda has been removed
- Repeat if you can still see the stain
Greasy stain removal with baking soda
If there is grease present in the stain, it will be more persistent so, follow these steps:
- Use a kitchen towel or cloth to blot the stain (donotrub!) to remove as much grease as your can
- Sprinkle a generous amount of baking soda on the stain and leave overnight if possible (if not overnight then the longer, the better)
- Vacuum the baking soda up and hopefully your greasy stain will be gone. However, if it is still noticeable, use a small pea-sized drop of washing up liquid to blot the stain.
- Use clean water and a towel straight away to blot up the soapy water but again, don’t rub as this will spread the grease
- Dry the area as much as you can and add more baking soda for upward of 3 hours and then vacuum again. Et voila!
