My goal for 2022 is to be better at selling on Poshmark. What typically happens for me is I do a massive closet cleanout and it takes me a full weekend to clean out, take photos and list everything on Poshmark. It’s quite the undertaking but it’s definitely worth it. During our most recent move, I went through my closet and ended up selling about 80 items on Poshmark and making about $1,600, here are my top 10 tips for selling on Poshmark.
Poshmark is an amazing tool and you don’t have to be a blogger to an influencer to make money. You can quickly list your items and earn money just for selling things you might have just donated.
Before I dive into the tips for selling, let’s start with the basics…
- Download the Poshmark app or create an account on Poshmark.com
- Set up your closet and fill out the basic information
- Add your bank information for a quick deposit once you start selling. I love that it’s a direct deposit into my account and there’s no need for PayPal. You can also request a check if you don’t feel comfortable entering your bank information.
- From there, take a look around and get comfortable with the platform and find a few people to follow!
Top 10 Tips for Selling on Poshmark
1. Use keywords in your titles
You should think of your product titles like how you would search for it in Google. The more specific the better. People are likely searching for specific items, so instead of writing “Floral Dress”, it’s better to title it “Lilly Pulitzer Unicorn of the Sea Gabby Shift Dress”. Personally, I always like to include the brand name if it’s a recognizable brand. You can also include the print name if there is one or style name.
You might also see things NWT or NWOT in the title which is also really helpful.

2. Realistic pricing
You want to price the items for what it’s valued at NOT what you paid for it. You have to factor in that it’s likely an older style if you are selling it or if it’s been worn the value of the price goes down, similar to a used car.
Personally, I like to search for the item I’m selling on Poshmark and see what others have it listed at. I like to go a little cheaper just to have a competitive edge.
If you can’t find the item, Poshmark will give you a pricing recommendation based on the price you paid for it. I find it to be a good starting point.
3. Cute mailers
I like to think of my Poshmark as a mini boutique so I like to package my sales in cute little poly mailers from Amazon. They are super cheap and I think just add a little extra touch, plus this will likely get you a higher review from the buyer. For bundles of multiple items I just grab old boxes and package those up.

If you don’t want to get mailers online, you can also grab the priority mailboxes/envelopes at the post office for free since it’s compatible with the pre-paid postage. They are typically located in a stand-alone display at the entrance.
4. Fast shipping
Fast shipping is key! Poshmark provides the shipping label for you, so just print that out pop it on your cute mailer, and drop it in your mailbox or at the post office. I didn’t realize you could drop it in your mailbox until after a few years of selling, it’s definitely the easiest and fastest option!
5. Clear photos of the item
It’s best to take multiple images of the items you are selling on preferable a blank background. I have a hook on the back of one of my doors and hang the items there and get photos of everything. I like to take photos of the front and back along with close-ups of the tags, sleeves, any other detail that might be important as well as any imperfections. It’s key to disclose any imperfections so buyers aren’t surprised.
6. Show photos of you or a model wearing the item
Another big way to set yourself apart is to make the cover photo of the listing a photo of you wearing the item or a model wearing it from the original retailer. If you know the style name it should be easy to find it on Google.
Just like shopping online at any other retailer you want to see how it’s going to look on, think of this as your own mini boutique!
7. Utilize Poshmark parties
I’ve heard from a lot of people that the parties are confusing. Posh parties are essentially different groups happening at a specific time where you can share your items and get them in front of a large group of people who may not have seen it otherwise.
You can get notifications when these parties happening but they happen all the time and you just have to make sure your items make sense. If it’s a Sunday Dresses parties share all your dresses there for more exposure, typically there’s a short description for clarity but it definitely doesn’t hurt to share them at parties, but it’s also not mandatory.
8. Offer discounts for bundling
You can set up some bundling discounts in your closet to entice buyers to check out. I personally offer a 10% discount to anyone who buys 2 or more items from my shop. This definitely helps people check out and buy more things!
Buyers can also make offers that sometimes are good and sometimes are super low. You can choose to counter, accept or decline their offer. It’s really a case-by-case basis for me.
9. Respond to questions
Potential buyers can also ask questions in the comments of each listing. The most common question I see is the measurement of the piece. Make sure to respond to those quickly and accurately to close the sale. All users can see the comments so it can also help someone else.
10. Follow others and share other items
Similar to any other social media site it’s important to engage with other users. I like to share other listings that my followers might like based on similar brands or styles and those poshers might share your listing in return and help grow your closet.
