Schengen Visa Types
The Schengen Visa is divided into four categories or types - A, B, C, and D.
The Uniform Schengen Visa is the most common type of Schengen visa. It includes groups A, B, and C., including airport transit visas. With this visa, you can stay for a maximum of 90 days within a 6 month period in any country within the Schengen Zone.
1. Schengen visa type A, also known as an airport transit visa
If you are not a citizen of a Schengen country and have a connecting flight or need to transit through a Schengen airport, you can use a type A visa to do so. However, remember that you will not be permitted to enter the specific Schengen country.
2. Schengen visa type B
The type B visa, which was previously applicable to short-term trips of less than five days, has been replaced by the type C visa with transit conditions.
3. Schengen visa type C
The Schengen visa service issues short-stay visas for individuals who plan to remain in the area for fewer than 90 days over a period of 180 days. This visa allows you to travel freely throughout the Schengen area without additional visas or border checks.
Based on the purpose of your travel, the Schengen visa in category C for short stays can be:
A Schengen visa with a single entry allows you to enter the area only once. Even if the validity period is still active, it will expire once you exit the area.
A Schengen visa with double entries allows you two entries into the Schengen region during your Schengen visa's validity. The visa will expire after the second exit.
A Schengen visa with multiple entries allows you to enter and exit the area multiple times. This permission is only valid for 90 days out of 180 days.
4. Schengen visa type D, also known as a national long-stay visa
A national visa is required if you intend to study, work, or reside in a Schengen country for over 90 days and up to a year. It's also called a type D long-stay Schengen visa. If you have this visa, you can reside in the Schengen area for a maximum of 90 days within 180 days of your visa’s validity.
