U.S. Bank Business Platinum Card Review

3.5 / 5

  • No rewards. A business credit card’s two main attractions are helpful expense-tracking tools and business-oriented rewards that can be earned on employee spending, in addition to your own. With absolutely no rewards, the U.S. Bank Business Platinum card doesn’t bring nearly enough to the table.
  • Great 0% intro period. The U.S. Bank Business Platinum Card’s 0% introductory APRs on purchases and balance transfers, which last for the first 18 billing cycles your account is open, are its most obvious benefits. However, business credit card issuers are allowed to increase the interest rate on a balance whenever they want, making such cards rather dangerous to carry a balance on. This is unlikely to happen during the 0% term, but since longer 0% periods are available from general-consumer cards, there’s really no reason to risk it. That’s especially true considering the Business Platinum Card’s regular APR of 17.24% - 26.24% (V) –themarket average for people with excellent credit is18.2%.
  • No annual fee. The Platinum U.S. Bank Business Credit Card is roughly $22.22 per year cheaper than the average card, thanks to its lack of an annual fee. But there are more than 1,000 no annual fee credit cards currently available, including more than 125 branded for business use.

What is the U.S. Bank Business Platinum credit limit?

Reply

Chip Lupo, Credit Card Writer

@CLoop

The U.S. Bank Business Platinum Card credit limit is usually around $5,000to start, according to forum posts, and some cardholders report limits as high as $35,000. U.S. Bank does not include any specific U.S. Bank Business Platinum Card credit limit information in the card's terms, though.

For the most part, U.S. Bank Business Platinum Card credit limits depend on each applicant's overall creditworthiness. Those with the highest income and best credit scores will generally be offered the highest starting credit limits.

That said, the U.S. Bank Business Platinum Card credit limit that you start with isn't necessarily your credit line forever. You can ask to get a credit limit increase by calling the U.S. Bank customer service number on the back of your card, but it's best not to ask more than once a year. U.S. Bank will also evaluate your account periodically to determine whether you are eligible for a credit limit increase. Paying on time and keeping your credit utilization low are key for getting unsolicited credit line increases with U.S. Bank.

What credit bureau does US Bank Business Platinum Card use for approval?

Reply

Hannah Copley

@hannah_copley

The U.S. Bank Business Platinum card mainly uses the TransUnion credit bureau for approval.

That doesn't mean that the other major credit bureaus, Experian and Equifax are not used. U.S. Bank might pull your credit from either (or all) of them.

As for reporting, U.S. Bank reports its small business credit cards to Dun and Bradstreet (D&B) and Small Business Financial Exchange (SBFE).

If you carry a balance on the card after the promotional offer, that outstanding balance would be subject to the card's regular APR. Hope this helps.

How can I cancel a U.S. Bank Business Platinum Card application?

Chip Lupo, Credit Card Writer

@CLoop

You can cancel a U.S. Bank Business Platinum Card application directly by calling U.S. Bank's customer service line at 1 (866) 485-4545. You will need to act quickly to ensure your cancellation request is accepted before U.S. Bank approves or rejects your application.

Credit card issuers are required to respond to applications within 30 days, but U.S. Bank often processes online applications immediately. Unfortunately, this doesn't leave you with a lot of time to cancel a U.S. Bank Business Platinum Card application after you...

As a small business owner, you should consider other options. They are extremely difficult to work with. I just wasted two hours talking to three or four customer service representatives to get one question answered and make a single payment. I found myself repeatedly having to correct their answers as multiple people calculated incorrectly and gave me the wrong payment info. Finally, I just tallied it up for them because they couldn't figure out simple math. This has been a consistent experience each time I call in. I'm very conscious of time as a small business owner. Simple tasks should be able to be done with competence and efficiently. I do not have the time to guide other businesses on how to perform their jobs while working 80 hours a week for my own business. Secondly, I was instantly approved by Chase for a credit line significantly higher for my new business. When I inquired with US Bank as to why they gave me such a subpar credit line that I can barely do anything with as a business owner, they had no explanation, and my credit is excellent—800. Thirdly, I applied for a Visa, and they sent me a Mastercard instead. When I questioned the bait and switch, they also had no explanation. It was a waste of a hard credit inquiry. Go with the larger banks that are more willing to work with small business owners and able to support you through start up. Their online portal also has technical issues.

After reading all the reviews, I decided to give it a try. I have a credit score over 800 with established credit, so I unfroze my credit and applied. They said my application was in the review process. I called in to find out if this is normal, as all the other business credit cards I have were instantly approved. After being transferred repeatedly, I was told that I was denied because the business hasn't established any credit. I asked, "Isn't that why I'm a guarantor?" I detected an attitude in the underwriter's voice, so I just let it go. It was a wasted inquiry. I'll just stick with the big three: Chase, Wells Fargo, and Bank of America.

I received a letter in the mail an approval letter. I had another credit card on 0% expiring with over 40,000 dollars on it. After seeing this was a platinum card and how it gave me a 7 day window to apply. I checked to see if EIN was all that was needed. It stated they needed my SSN to prove who I was only nothing to do with a credit check on my own credit. I applied and it not only checked my personal credit, it gave me only 3,000 dollars! I called a representative before I sent it in, who told me it would be at least 20,000. After all it states apply so you can transfer your bigger bills for 15 mo. Interest free savings. What a slap in the face, I have never been given such a small amount of credit in 15 years of running my business. Last time on my personal credit was 20 years ago when Home Depot first started 2500, but later went up to 60,000. My personal credit is 835 and this is how you get treated by US bank, maybe it’s just me but this sucks.
