In a troubling development, the National Unity Platform (NUP) in Uganda has reported the disappearance of its Bukedea MP candidate, Asio Florence, just hours before her scheduled nomination. This incident comes as a shock, especially given the recent history of political intimidation in the region. Asio and her team members vanished while traveling from Soroti to Bukedea, and their phones have been unreachable since. NUP president Robert Kyagulanyi, known as Bobi Wine, expressed deep concern, stating that their candidate's whereabouts are currently unknown. This is not the first time Asio has faced threats; she previously reported being targeted by unidentified armed men who intimidated her family, demanding her withdrawal from the race. The situation is made more alarming by the unopposed declaration of Speaker Anita Among for the Bukedea Woman MP seat, which NUP leaders and residents have strongly condemned as an attack on democracy. The pattern of political intimidation is evident, with three women from different parties being removed from the voters' register in similar circumstances. The Electoral Commission and Uganda Police Force have yet to issue statements regarding Asio's disappearance or the disruptions at the Bukedea nomination center, leaving the public in a state of uncertainty and concern.
