How do Apple app specific passwords work? ›

To help make sure that your Apple ID password can't be stored or collected by the app, you can choose to create an Apple ID password to use only with that app. You use this app-specific password when the app asks you to sign in with your Apple ID.

To change this, go back to Settings, tap "Face ID & Passcode" or "Touch ID & Passcode", then turn off Face ID or Touch ID next to iTunes & App Store.

When you sign up for services on websites and in apps, you can let iPhone create strong passwords for many of your accounts. iPhone stores the passwords in iCloud Keychain and fills them in for you automatically, so you don't have to memorize them.

Choose a password with eight characters or more and a mix of different character types. Don't use names, words found in a dictionary, phone numbers, dates, or simple combinations of these. Avoid using a pattern of keyboard characters such as a series of keys in a straight or diagonal row.

Important: App passwords aren't recommended and are unnecessary in most cases. To help keep your account secure, use "Sign in with Google" to connect apps to your Google Account. An app password is a 16-digit passcode that gives a less secure app or device permission to access your Google Account.

Any time you change or reset your primary Apple ID password, all of your app-specific passwords are revoked automatically to protect the security of your account.

Save passwords to your Google Account

If Offer to save passwords is on, you'll be prompted to save your password when you sign in to sites and apps on Android or Chrome. To save your password for the site or app, select Save.

Change your passcode or passcode settings

On earlier iPhone models, go to Settings > Touch ID & Passcode. On devices without Touch ID, go to Settings > Passcode. You'll find several settings and options: Turn Passcode Off: Tap this option to turn off your passcode.
