Can I use someone else's Square reader? ›

While the reader can be used with multiple devices, it can only connect with one device at a time. To connect your reader to another device, make sure to disconnect it from its current device. To disconnect your reader: Navigate to ≡ More > Settings.

You can add one or more authorised users to the account, however, the ability to transfer account ownership is unavailable.

We may withhold funds by temporarily suspending or delaying payouts of Proceeds to you and/or designate an amount of funds that you must maintain in your Square Accounts or in a separate reserve account (a “Reserve”) to secure the performance of your obligations under any agreement between you and Square.

The reader has nothing to do with the account and can be used by anyone with a square account.

You will just need to download the Square Point of Sale app onto each mobile device, and sign in using the same Square account (username and password). The readers don't actually have any account information tied to them - the app is the brains of the operation.

Before you begin

You can make existing team members authorized representatives and manage your authorized representatives from your business settings in Square Dashboard. You can add new team members as authorized representatives from your Square Dashboard or your Square Point of Sale app.

Sign in to your Square Dashboard, then click Payments > Payment Links. Next to the payment link you want to share, click Share and choose your share option.

If you see a blinking red light, that means your Square Reader battery is low and should be charged immediately. If your Square Reader is in a dock, make sure your reader is being charged. Restart your phone, tablet or other electronic device. You can also first try briefly putting your device into Airplane mode.

The IRS requires Payment Settlement Entities, such as Square, to report the payment volume received by U.S. account holders. A Form 1099-K is the information return that is given to the IRS and qualifying customers.

Why is Square holding my money today? ›

Your transfers are likely suspended because we noticed some unusual activity on your Square account. Our system periodically reviews your transactions to keep your account safe from scams and fraud.

If we determine a transaction on your account is likely to be the work of scammers, we'll alert you via email. Once you receive an alert via email, we ask that you not ship the order(s) being investigated or accept further payments from the customer in question until you hear back from us.

Reserve for Holding Funds

The Reserve may also be used to satisfy Square's obligations to hold or remit funds as required by any creditor or governmental authority, including levies, liens, or garnishments. We may require a Reserve for any reason related to your use of the Services.

Square Cash is free to send and receive, and there is no signup process. Funds are directly deposited into the recipient's bank account, rather than held in a stored balance account.

To perform a factory reset, you must “forget” the reader from your Square POS app and your device's Bluetooth settings: Go to your Square Point of Sale app, tap ≡ More > Settings > Hardware > Square Readers.

If you're not a business, you can state that you're using Square as an individual or you can select a specific business type to best reflect the goods or services you provide.

You just use the one Square POS app and you log into whatever account you need at the time of the transaction. There is no "hot switching" between accounts currently. Yes, all Square readers are account agnostic. You can sign out of one account and sign into another on your mobile device, while using the same reader.

It's the account into which the device is logged that determines what business gets the information. You can safely sell or give away your reader with no repercussions at all to yourself.
