Serving Suggestions

Indulging in a waffle shouldn’t just stop at the fluffy, golden disk itself. It’s all about the toppings and pairings that make the waffle a star dish. Here are some mouthwatering ideas to take your waffle from “yum” to “can’t get enough.”

  • Caramelized Bananas: Think beyond the basic banana slices. Caramelized bananas, cooked with a sprinkle of brown sugar and a touch of cinnamon, make an incredibly sweet and decadent topping that pairs perfectly with the waffle’s crispy edges.
  • Lemon Curd: For a bright and tangy twist, slather some homemade or store-bought lemon curd on top of your waffle. The zesty lemon flavor is a refreshing contrast to the waffle’s natural sweetness.
  • Fried Apples: Imagine a combination of warm, cinnamon-spiced apples sitting atop your fluffy waffle. Fried apples add an autumnal feel that evokes comfort food nostalgia.
  • Apple Butter: For a taste that’s both sweet and spiced, a dollop of apple butter can do wonders. It adds richness and depth of flavor that simple butter just can’t match.
  • Caramelized Plums: Elevate your waffle game with caramelized plums. These plums, cooked down with just a bit of sugar, offer a tart and sweet complexity that pairs exceptionally well with a crisp, fluffy waffle.
  • Chocolate Lovers: Melt some dark chocolate and pour it over your waffle. Add a dollop of whipped cream and garnish with chocolate shavings. It’s like dessert for breakfast but without the guilt.

Frequently Asked Questions

Can I freeze waffles?

Yes. Just place the cooled waffles in a zip topped bag and store in the freezer for up to 3 months.
To reheat the frozen waffle, place it in the toaster and cook until heated through and crisp. (You will likely need to cut the waffle in half to fit it in your toaster).

How will I know when a waffle is done?

The waffle is done when it’s golden brown and the waffle iron stops steaming.

Enjoy a golden and crisp, single serve waffle made from basic pantry ingredients – a quick, customizable delicious breakfast just for you.

Ingredients

  • 1 large egg
  • ½ cup milk (you may use cows milk, almond milk, soy milk, or coconut milk)
  • ¼ teaspoon vanilla extract
  • 1 tablespoon salted butter , melted
  • 1 tablespoon granulated sugar
  • ½ cup all purpose flour
  • ½ teaspoon baking powder
  • teaspoon salt

Instructions

  • Preheat waffle iron. Spray with non stick cooking spray or brush with melted butter.

Beat the egg in a bowl until fluffy. Add the milk, vanilla, melted butter, and sugar and mix well.

  • Whisk in the flour, baking powder, and salt and mix gently until combined. Do not overmix.

  • Pour the batter on the iron and close it. Depending on the size of your waffle maker, you might have too much batter. If so, use the little bit of remaining batter to make a second, smaller waffle.

  • Cook the waffle until no more steam comes out. The waffle should be golden brown and crisp.

  • Lift the waffle out of the waffle iron with a pair of tongs and enjoy right away.
