Wells Fargo Active Cash Review
5.0 / 5
The Wells Fargo Active Cash® Card is a good credit card for people with a credit score of 700 or higher who want to earn above-average rewards without any hassle and without paying an annual fee. Wells Fargo Active Cash also is worthwhile for people interested in 0% introductory APRs and getting up to $600 in cell phone protection.
Wells Fargo Active Cash Card Review Highlights
2% cash rewards on purchases
Wells Fargo Active Cash rewards cardholders with unlimited 2% cash rewards on purchases, which is roughly twice what the average cash back credit card gives. Plus, Wells Fargo Active Cash rewards earnings won’t expire as long as your account is open.
$200 cash rewards bonus
The Wells Fargo Active Cash initial cash rewards bonus is $200, and new cardholders can qualify for it by making $500 in purchases within 3 months of opening an account. The average initial bonus on a cash back credit card offer is currently $231.
0% for 12 months from account opening on purchases
This introductory APR could save you a lot of money on big-ticket purchases, but don’t forget that you’ll still need to pay at least the minimum amount due each month while the 0% rate is in effect. Also, any balance remaining at the end of the intro term will begin to accrue interest at the card’s higher regular interest rate.
$0 annual fee
The Wells Fargo Active Cash Card’s $0 annual fee makes it $22.22 per year cheaper than the average credit card offer. Still, there are lots of cash back credit cards with no annual fee available right now, and even cards with annual fees can provide the most value at the end of the day.
0% for 12 months from account opening on qualifying balance transfers
Wells Fargo Active Cash can help you reduce the cost of existing debt owed to other lenders, with its introductory balance transfer APR of 0% for 12 months from account opening on qualifying balance transfers. Just make sure to account for the card’s balance transfer fee: 3% intro for 120 days, then up to 5% (min $5). For comparison, the average balance transfer credit card offer gives 0% for 13 months and has a 3.12% balance transfer fee.
$600 in cell phone protection and other perks
If you pay your monthly cell phone bill with the Wells Fargo Active Cash Card, you can get up to $600 if your phone breaks or is stolen (subject to a $25 deductible). Cardholders can also make requests from the Visa Concierge and enjoy special benefits at eligible hotels.
20.24% - 29.99% Variable APR
The Wells Fargo Active Cash interest rate can be anywhere from 20.24% to 29.99% Variable, depending on an applicant’s overall creditworthiness. Currently, the average interest rate among new credit card offers is 23.1%.
3% foreign transaction fee
The Wells Fargo Active Cash Card’s 3% foreign fee applies to purchases processed internationally, whether you’re traveling abroad or shopping online through foreign merchants. These fees can really add up, so it’s best to use a credit card with no foreign fee for international transactions.
700+ credit score needed
The Wells Fargo Active Cash requires good credit or better for approval. You can check your latest credit score for free on WalletHub to get a sense of your approval odds.

No, the Wells Fargo Active Cash® Card is not a good first-time credit card because it is only available to people with good credit or better. People who've never owned a credit card are unlikely to get approved unless they've built good credit through other means. There are plenty of good first-time credit cards on the market, though.

Yes, the Wells Fargo Active Cash® Card builds credit, since Wells Fargo reports your account information to all three major credit bureaus each month. Making on-time payments and keeping your balance low will improve your score. On the other hand, missing due dates or maxing out your limit could hurt your credit.

The card is great, but they never offer a credit line increase. I used my card and paid it off monthly for three years. When I asked for a review to get an increase, they took my information and never responded, so I moved everything to a Capital One card. Within a year of on-time payments, Capital One offered an increase. I only keep the Wells Fargo card for the history.

Good card, horrible website. Ridiculously hard to use, especially for communication. Security carried to extremes, making it inordinately difficult to, for example, read secure messages.

If I had read the reviews before I signed up for this credit card, I never would have bothered with this company. I've only had this card for two months. I can't use their app, their website, or even their automated payment phone number. When I call for help, they say everything looks good, although I still cannot make payments through the services. I've talked to three different people in the IT department with no resolution. To top it off, I had fraudulent charges on this account and have to wait for a new card in order to make a payment that's due soon. I think I will just go with a respectable company and transfer the balance over to another credit card and close this account.

I have a credit score of 817, substantial assets, and income. I was notified that my application would be "declined" unless I provide detailed documentation of my income. This is ridiculous, and I will not waste my time doing that. Also, I choose not to do business in the future with Wells Fargo.

I have been a Wells Fargo customer for over 15 years. I have my checking, savings, and a paid-off Wells Fargo auto loan that I financed through them. I was extremely hesitant to apply because I know Wells Fargo can be very selective with their applicants. I've read about many WF customers and non-WF customers being denied with excellent scores, long verification processes, etc. My score at the time of applying on March 6th was a 721 with Experian and I was approved only a month prior with Discover It for their Cash Rewards Card for $6,000. I was super hesitant but decided to go for it. I did notice that on the online pre-qualification tool from WF, they ask if you are a WF customer and you're able to sign in, which I did. I noticed that when I did sign in versus not signing in, there was one thing that really stood out.
When I didn't sign in, it would show me different APR interest rates which would depend on my creditworthiness.
Now, when I signed in, Wells Fargo showed all the cards I prequalified for (which was all of them), and for all of them, my personal APR rate of 20.24% was set solid in bold.
Needless to say, I submitted my application for the WF Active Cash Card because it best suits me and waited less than 1 minute. No verification, no hassle, and I was approved with a $10,000 starting credit line!

My income is straight forward. I own a business and they have access to my income from my accounts. When you have their premier checking and saving accounts, they do see that you are able to manage and pay off higher credit limits responsibly. Wells Fargo is very selective on who they give a generous amount of credit to. I had a 92k auto loan that I financed with my bank, Wells Fargo. It didn’t take me long to pay it off at all. When you take that into consideration along side having over 25k in your checking account, they will more than likely grant you a great credit limit

I applied for this card with a credit score of 769. I have excellent credit. Instead of saying you are approved, it said 'pending more information'. Today, I called to ask what other information they needed. They said they would send me a letter in 10 days. I said, okay, cancel the application; I do not want to do business with you. Then the lady stated, we cannot cancel because you have been approved for $1500. I said you cannot force me to accept your credit card; cancel it. She told me to call customer service. I did, and that person also falsely stated they could not cancel the card. I asked to speak with the executive office, and they finally transferred me to them. I stated you cannot refuse to cancel the account. If you continue to refuse, then I will take you to court. She then said that she could cancel the card in three days. I suggest that if you cannot get a straight answer when you apply for any card from Wells Fargo or any credit card company, then do not do business with them. By the way, get the Costco CitiBank Visa card. I was given the card immediately with a six thousand dollar limit and great rewards.

I agree with the benefits of the Costco Citi Visa Card and its perks. Yet, one needs to know that it ties to your Costco membership subscription. This Costco Citi Visa Card will be closed if one is no longer a Costco member. As of this writing (May, 2024), Costco accepts all VISA credit cards, Costco Gift Cards, and/or CASH for payments. If you want to keep your VISA card to build credit history independently from Costco membership, better off with a different VISA credit card.

I applied for the Wells Fargo credit card and couldn't believe I was denied even though my credit score is 820, and all my bills are paid on time, never late. I called them, and they were asking for income verification, pay stubs, and all that nonsense paperwork. The people who review the applications must not be that bright; all they need to check is the credit score and whether the credit cards are paid on time. I wish I could give them a zero rating.

wow, they said my answer was pending and then lied about it when I called them. I said okay I changed my mind I do not want to do business with you. Then the lady said I was approved for 1500 and that I would get the card in 10 days. what people do not know is that there are many credit cards out there and they are lowclass cards regardless of rewards. They do not improve your credit score and they make it difficult to pay the balance when you want to. This is why I am sticking with Citibank

Income verification is important since even an excellent credit does not mean a minimum wage earner can shoulder a $350K mortgage. So, it's the combination of score, earnings, and debt ratio that goes into the decision.
