First, you’ll want to bring the right identification. You’ll want to double-check the requirements of your local FAA test center, but generally speaking:
1) If you are a U.S. citizen — you must bring a valid photo ID with a signature: US Driver’s License, Passport, Military ID, Alien Residency Card, US Government ID.
2) If the address on your photo ID is not your current physical residential address, you must provide a current utility bill in your name: Water, Gas or Electric.
3) If you are not a U.S. Citizen — you will need to bring both your passport AND either a) a driver permit or license issued by a U.S. state or territory, or b) an “identification card issued by any government entity.”
You might also want to consider bringing a magnifier. Many of our students report difficulties seeing the small icons and text on the Sectional Chart excerpts. Either the lighting in the room was poor, eyesight wasn’t what it used to be, or these Sectional Charts are just too damn tough to decipher even in perfect conditions. It’s probably that latter one 🙂
You can also bring a basic 4-function calculator. The most complicated math you would encounter on the exam would be some multiplication in a Load Factor Chart question.
Your local FAA test center will provide scratch paper and a pen/pencil, and a printed copy of the Airman Knowledge Testing Supplement, the same one used digitally in our course. Remember that the Legend in that book has a ton of helpful airspace information.
Unfortunately, you are not allowed to bring any extra notes or documents into the testing room.
