A sourcing risk analysis begins by first understanding business goals, strategies, and priorities. Ask yourself, how do my sourcing objectives align with the overall objectives of the organization? You'll want to keep in mind market conditions, industry trends, and talent availability in relevant sectors and geographic locations. External factors may impact sourcing objectives. I find it helpful to categorize my identified risks based on their nature, severity, and impact on TA. Some of my categories might include financial risks, operational risks, legal and regulatory risks, and strategic risks. Risk mitigation strategies and action plans are crucial to minimize risk impact on TA activities.

When mapping sourcing risks, it is important to consider both internal and external factors that can affect sourcing objectives and criteria. Internal factors such as supplier reliability, quality control, inventory management, operational efficiency, and compliance with regulations should be assessed in conjunction with external factors like geopolitical risks, market volatility, natural disasters, global supply chain dependencies, and pandemics. Analyzing the likelihood of occurrence and severity of consequences for each risk factor can help organizations develop effective risk mitigation strategies and ensure a resilient and sustainable supply chain.
