In my opinion, the US still remains my destination of choice. No caps, a US-trained Doctor is sellable any day anytime.

In this post I'll talk about the rank order list and what's the criteria that makes you put program in the top choice and another program in the last choice: 1- One of the most important things is the neighborhood of the program, is the program located in a good neighborhood or bad neighborhood? Because most of your patients will be from the area of the hospital. So choose well who you would like to deal with. 2- You should keep in your mind the environment of the program, is the attending physicians and the senior residents are listening to the feedback or not? Is the environment not toxic? Can they give you the autonomy to take a medical decision? We all do mistakes, so what they will do if you did a mistake? How they will correct you? The method of correcting others is the key here!! 3- The didactics in the program; try to ask the residents how many morning report or afternoon conference are cancelled? And what about the morning round? Does the attending see the patients with you everyday and does he add to you new information? 4- The research outcome from the program; so look at the residents how many publications they do during their residency, and how many posters they present in the different conferences, and is the program pay for the travel expenses of the conferences or not? 5- The language of the patients, some programs present in areas that 90% of the patients don't speak English and speak language like Spanish or other language that you are not speaking. So in this scenario most of the time you are carrying the phone asking for interpreter. The language barrier will put you in a hard time to reach to the diagnosis of the diseases and you may misdiagnose a patient just because of this reason. 6- The salary incomparison to the life expenses in the area of the program. Some states are so expensive like NY and others are cheaper like MN so you should put the salary incomparison to how much you will spend then you can decide if the offer is good or not from that program. 7- Does the program has inhouse fellowships or not? If it's present it will be an advantage as you can continue in the program and get the fellowship easily if you can prove to them that you are a good candidate. 8- What procedures you will learn during the residency? Because after 3 years you will be an attending in a hospital, mostly there are no residents in this hospital, so all the work you will do alone, so you should be trained well.9- The name of the program, is it community hospital, or university affiliated or university program. The name of the program (especially if it's one of the most prestigious ones) will help a lot during applying for the fellowship.10- The benefits; and in this point I'm talking about the health insurance you should get, the food they are offering... ECT.The residency is not about the work only, it's a life!! I wish you guys can match in your first choice and end at the program you like!

🌟 The Journey of a Woman Foreign Medical Graduate from Eastern Europe 🌟Being a woman medical graduate from Eastern Europe comes with its unique set of challenges and advantages. Navigating the path to recognition in the medical field in a new country is both demanding and rewarding.**Challenges:**1. **Cultural and Language Barriers:** Adapting to a new culture and mastering a new language can be daunting. I came to the US after living in Canada for three years, so except for my accent that never went away, my English was already pretty good. When I arrived in Canada though, it took me a while to learn the language and to re-learn medical terminology.2. **Credential Recognition:** Ensuring that qualifications and experiences are recognized and valued can be an uphill battle. It took me two years to study for and pass USMLE parts 1 and 2 as well as the mandatory TOEFL exams before applying for a residency position. Residency and cardiology fellowship took another six years combined.3. **Networking:** Building a professional network from scratch in a foreign country requires persistence and resilience.4. **Work-Life Balance:** Balancing the demands of a medical career while supporting family and personal responsibilities is a constant challenge. It took me seventeen years, two jobs as a cardiologist, and two burnouts to be able to achieve financial freedom, raise and educate my kids, and take care of my mom who was still living abroad.**Advantages:**1. **Diverse Perspectives:** Bringing unique insights and approaches from diverse training backgrounds enhances patient care and medical practices.2. **Resilience:** Overcoming numerous hurdles fosters a strong sense of resilience and adaptability. Over the years, I learned a lot about myself including the fact that I am one tough cookie )))3. **Global Mindset:** A broad, international perspective enriches professional interactions and problem-solving abilities.4. **Dedication:** The determination to succeed against all odds often translates into exceptional dedication and commitment to the profession. My journey as a woman medical graduate from Eastern Europe has been filled with both struggles and triumphs. The road has not been easy, but each challenge has made me stronger and more determined to make a difference. To all the women foreign medical graduates out there, remember:- Your background is your strength.- Your experiences shape your unique contributions to the medical field.- Perseverance and resilience are key to overcoming any obstacle.Let's continue to support and uplift each other in our journeys. Together, we can make significant strides in the healthcare field, regardless of where we started.#WomenInMedicine #ForeignMedicalGraduate #Resilience #HealthcareHeroes #DiversityInMedicine #UkraineAmerican College of Lifestyle Medicine

🌟 Calling all International Medical Graduates! 🌟🤝 Importance of Healthy Relationships in Your Medical Journey 🤝As International Medical Graduates (IMGs), we understand the challenges of transitioning into a new healthcare system. Amidst the rigorous academic demands and clinical responsibilities, it's easy to overlook the vital role that healthy relationships play in our professional and personal lives. Here are a few reasons why fostering healthy relationships is crucial:1️⃣ **Patient Care:** Strong interpersonal skills are essential for effective patient communication and building trust. Cultivating healthy relationships with patients fosters better understanding, compliance, and ultimately, improved health outcomes.2️⃣ Colleague Collaboration: Medicine is inherently collaborative. Developing positive relationships with colleagues enhances teamwork, facilitates knowledge sharing, and promotes a supportive work environment. Together, we can tackle complex cases and deliver comprehensive care.3️⃣ **Mental Well-being:** The demanding nature of medical training and practice can take a toll on our mental health. Nurturing supportive relationships with peers, mentors, and loved ones provides a vital source of emotional support, reducing stress and preventing burnout.4️⃣ Professional Growth: Networking with mentors, attending conferences, and engaging in peer support groups are invaluable opportunities for professional development. These connections offer guidance, career advice, and potential avenues for research or career advancement.5️⃣ Work-Life Balance: Balancing a medical career with personal life can be challenging. Prioritizing quality time with loved ones is essential for overall well-being.Let's prioritize cultivating meaningful connections within and outside the medical field. Together, we can navigate the complexities of healthcare with compassion, resilience, and a commitment to building healthier communities worldwide.
