1 Optimize your book page
Your book page is your main marketing tool on Amazon, so make sure it's optimized for both search engines and human readers. This means choosing a catchy title and subtitle, writing a compelling description, selecting relevant keywords and categories, adding a professional cover image, and including positive reviews and testimonials. You can also use HTML formatting, bullet points, and bold text to highlight the benefits and features of your book and make it easier to scan. Your book page should entice readers to click the buy button and start reading your book.

Write what you are passionate about and a subject you know in detail. A big plus is writing about personal experiences.Draft your content by starting with too much. As you edit, you'll reduce the volume of content as you focus and refine the story. In my first historical fiction, I edited from front to back, 278 times. How do I know that? Every day's edit I saved with a new date and new version number. Are that many edits necessary? Depends on you, the subject, research material available, etc. My publisher was shocked that this was my first book. Hence, I think editing again and again is vitally important.

2 Enroll in KDP Select
KDP Select is a program that gives you access to exclusive benefits and tools on Amazon, such as Kindle Unlimited, Kindle Owners' Lending Library, Kindle Countdown Deals, and Free Book Promotions. By enrolling in KDP Select, you agree to make your book exclusive to Amazon for 90 days, which means you can't sell it anywhere else. However, this can also increase your exposure and earnings on Amazon, as you can reach more readers who use the subscription and lending services, and create more buzz and urgency with the promotional options. You can also earn higher royalties and get more visibility in the algorithm.

3 Run Amazon ads
Amazon ads are another way to boost your book's visibility on Amazon, as they allow you to target your ideal audience and display your book in front of them when they're browsing or searching for similar books. You can choose between two types of ads: sponsored products and sponsored brands. Sponsored products are keyword-based ads that show up on the search results page or on the product detail page of other books. Sponsored brands are banner ads that show up on the top of the search results page and feature your author logo and up to three books. You can set your own budget and bid for each ad, and pay only when someone clicks on your ad.

Ads is the #1 way to drive traffic to your product detail page on Amazon. If you are new the the PPC (pay per click) Ad platform you will want to experiment first with automatic campaigns, where Amazon selects the keywords for you. Begin with a low bid, and make increments of +/- 10% swing in bid price until you are seeing the performance move in your favor. After several weeks, review your search term report and isolate any keywords which are adding wasted spend to the campaign. Copy and paste the words and then add them as "negative keywords" to the campaign. This is a good exercise for beginners before jumping into manual targeting with different keyword match types. Once you understand the fundamentals, try more advanced strategies.

4 Build your email list
Your email list is one of your most valuable assets as an author, as it allows you to communicate directly with your readers and fans, and build a loyal and engaged community. You can use your email list to announce new releases, offer discounts and bonuses, share valuable content, ask for feedback and reviews, and more. To build your email list, you need to offer something of value in exchange for your readers' email address, such as a free sample, a bonus chapter, a cheat sheet, a checklist, or a mini-course. You can then use a landing page and a sign-up form to collect the email addresses, and use an email marketing service to send newsletters and campaigns.

5 Leverage social media
Social media is another powerful tool to increase your book's visibility on Amazon, as it allows you to reach a wider audience, showcase your personality and expertise, and create a buzz around your book. You can use social media to share snippets and teasers of your book, post behind-the-scenes and personal stories, invite readers to join your launch team, run contests and giveaways, and more. You can also use hashtags, tags, and mentions to increase your reach and engagement, and join relevant groups and communities to network and collaborate with other authors and readers. However, don't be too salesy or spammy on social media, and focus on providing value and building relationships.

6 Get more reviews
Reviews are one of the most important factors that influence your book's visibility on Amazon, as they affect your ranking in the algorithm, your credibility and reputation, and your conversion rate. Reviews also provide social proof and feedback for your book, and help you connect with your readers and improve your writing. To get more reviews, you need to ask for them, and make it easy and convenient for your readers to leave them. You can ask for reviews in your book, in your email list, on your website, on social media, and in person. You can also use tools and services that help you find and contact reviewers, such as BookSirens, NetGalley, or StoryOrigin.

Reviews are gold—gather them from everywhere: Amazon, Goodreads, bloggers, and the media. Social media is your megaphone; use it wisely to announce your book to the world. Engage on platforms like Facebook, Instagram, and Twitter to connect with your audience. Don't forget an author website for a professional touch. Remember, your writing journey doesn't end with one book. Keep writing, keep publishing. Multiple books can amplify your presence. Host giveaways, participate in literary festivals, and always keep the reader engaged. Each step you take builds your author brand, bringing you closer to the spotlight on Amazon.

One thing I've found helpful with our books is putting one in when someone purchases a 3 pack of our Canary island garlic herb olive oils as a bonus. One of our books is a cookbook of recipes from our restaurant that served one or two people and were quick and easy. Since the recipes feature our seasoned olive oils 🫒 it's the perfect companion as a bonus gift. If your book is a companion let's say it's a romance 💜, partner with a small batch chocolate company as a bonus for Valentine's day. If it's a scifi, 👾 👽 go ahead o comic con and be a book fairy and give away 100 books to build a following. Include a QR code to get the first chapter of your next book.... Or.... When you run out let people scan a QR code to get a free copy.
