1 Identify your goal

The first step to creating a customer service elevator pitch is to identify your goal. What do you want to achieve with your pitch? Do you want to land an interview, secure a contract, or build a relationship? Your goal will determine the tone, content, and length of your pitch. For example, if you are applying for a customer service job, your goal might be to show that you have the relevant skills, experience, and personality for the role.

A strong customer service elevator pitch includes your name, a brief overview of your experience, your approach to customer satisfaction, and a highlight of a key achievement. Start by introducing yourself and your relevant experience, followed by how you prioritize customer needs and resolve issues effectively. End with an example of a successful customer interaction or improvement you've made. These elements are crucial as they demonstrate your competence, problem-solving skills, and commitment to delivering exceptional service in a concise and memorable way.

Many clients come to me unsure of how to articulate their career objectives. We work together to clarify their goals, whether it's advancing within their current field or transitioning to a new industry. For example, for a client moving from retail to tech support, we focused the pitch on their desire to leverage their extensive customer interaction skills in a tech-driven environment.

Every manager, executive, or company owner wants to hire employees who have hand-selected their business/product/project. As a candidate, you do this by researching the company (and their products and projects). Note that it is important to have more than just knowledge. You also have to show genuine passion and excitement about the prospect of working for the company. Speak to how this particular position aligns with your values, beliefs, and career goals. The fit will then be obvious to the hiring team.

An effective elevator pitch goes beyond fit and alignment. When crafting your pitch as a job seeker, it's crucial to highlight what makes you unique. Consider these points: What do you get complimented on most? What do you do better than those around you? What positive accolades were re-occurring on performance reviews? When did you go above and beyond the call of duty?Look for themes and talk about the differentiators that you know your target company cares about. When you add unique qualities to your pitch, you'll make a more memorable impact.

I'm going to have to disagree with a lot of what's suggested here. A good pitch is more about your listener and less about you. So to start the pitch about you is kinda selfish. An ideal pitch starts with research, pin point what problems you can solve for your customer. Then ask questions to truly understand the problem. Only after would a pitch be valuable.

Best pitches are I-A-V structured.I = issue: what’s the customer’s problem/challenge? Start with that to get attention. Eg. “We have no market visibility on raw material pricing, so we think we’re overpaying by millions.”A = action: what needs to happen to address the issue (solution)? HOWEVER, do not insert YOUR solution… yet. Suggest credible third party pricing data to help the customer understand where the market is to mitigate overpaying (your eventual offer). V = value: if the customer has solid independent pricing data, then better negotiations with suppliers is enabled, thereby limiting cost exposure, saving the customer $$$!Takes some practice, but believe it or not, pitches like this get attention, meetings & deals closed!
