Windows Server with Hyper-V role: First version was shipped with Windows Server 2008, the latest version was released with Windows Server 2022.Hyper-V is a Type 1 hypervisor (native or bare-metal hypervisors), installed directly onto the server hardware.Type 2 (hosted hypervisors) run on an operating system just as other computer programs do.Interestingly, when Hyper-V runs as a Windows Server role, it is considered to be Type 1In short: Type 1 is Operating System, while Type 2 is an application.Type 1 has better performance and stability.

Hyper-V is a bare-metal, hypervisor since it runs directly on the computer hardware and beneath the host and guest VMs.Both implement memory management techniques to optimize RAM use in VMs. While VMware implements various techniques such as memory compression, transparent page sharing, and oversubscription, Hyper-V sticks with just one—Dynamic Memory. There is no clear winner when it comes to scalability, with some features in favour of VMware and Hyper-V prevailing in others. For example, while VMware can use more logical CPUs and virtual CPUs per host, Hyper-V can accommodate more physical memory per host and VM. Plus, it can handle more virtual CPUs per VM.
