The average price Canadians pay for coffee varies widely by province, new data from Square shows.
In Calgary, the average cost is $4.22, making it the most expensive market for java in Canada. Contrasting that is Montreal at $2.67. And in the middle lies Ottawa ($2.89), Toronto ($3.28), and Vancouver ($3.66).
Square says its analytical tools help smaller businesses compete with larger ones by leveraging valuable data.
“The world’s largest retailers use data to help them increase sales,” explains Jenny He, Communications Lead for Square Canada. “With Square Analytics, we give local merchants access to important data about their business, from what they’re selling most often to when they’re the busiest.”

In Vancouver, Toronto, and Ottawa, the most popular type of coffee is an americano, while lattés are favoured in Edmonton, Calgary, and Montreal.
“This data allows local sellers to make more informed business decisions to stay competitive in today’s market,” says He.
Personally I’m more a long espresso man myself, but hey, to each their own.
