if im correct it should happen when every spirit bear quest is done and have a really good chunk of honey to not have a hive color convertion
You need to do all of this:
1) unlock SSA
2) complete black, panda, mother, science, spirit bear and onett questlines
3) buy coco boots ,petal wand, crimbalt, coco backpack, petal belt, lategame mask

After you get supreme star amulet you choose a hive colour but after U get gummy boots you start to form it
Blue if you macro, red if you boost.

I don't know I had my plan set on being red even before I got SSA
Currently grinding for dark scythe I just need 600+ red extracts and 70+ Riley bee quest

I wouldn't choose a specific hive color until you get supreme star amulet.
1) supreme star amulet (for red: scorch-saw, scorch-guiding, scorch-shower.) (for blue: pop-shower, pop-guiding) (for white: gum-saw, gum-shower, gum-guiding) (for mixed:???)
2) complete questlines (black, science, spirit, onett)
3) buy equipment: coco clogs, petal wand, petal belt, coco canister, crimbalt guard, and an endgame mask for your color.
4) have honey. youll need honey to roll ur ssa, and change ur hive.
5) *for scorch-saws and gum-saws only*: get a lot of stingers right now, start saving stingers as early as possible
