WHO CAN SEE MY TRANSACTIONS? When you pay or get paid on Venmo, you decide who can see it. You can select the settings, including Public (visible to everyone on the Internet), Friends (visible to sender, recipient, and their Venmo friends), or Private (visible to sender and recipient only).

All payment participants can see the amount, note, names of sender/recipient, and timestamp of the payment. Only the payment sender can see details about the payment method used (for example: the bank account, debit/credit card number, etc.). The recipient will NEVER see your financial information.

Venmo does not disclose your personal information with third parties for their promotional or marketing purposes. Some personal information is public information and may be seen by anyone on the internet, whether or not they have a Venmo account.

Make sure all your payments are private

Any time you pay for a babysitter or reimburse a friend on Venmo, that amount and description could be public and shown to your other friends on the app. Here's how to make it private by default.

You can view your friends list in the Venmo app. Just tap the number of friends at the top of your Me tab (ex: “200 Friends”) to check it out. You can go to another user's profile and do the same thing to see their friends list. Depending on your privacy settings, other Users can also view your friends list this way.

Can I delete transactions from Venmo? It's not possible to delete or clear past transactions, but you can make them private.

Venmo is still set by default to publicly share when you receive or make a payment. There's an option to make the transaction private, but if you use the app quickly and don't notice the setting, you could unknowingly broadcast the payments between you and others.

Can I send an anonymous payment to someone on Venmo? No. There's no way to pay someone anonymously on Venmo.

How to use Venmo anonymously? ›

For some apps, like Venmo, you have the option to change your name to a pseudonym in the app's settings. You'll still be required to enter your bank account and card information with your legal name, but your display name can usually be changed.

How to change your profile information on Venmo. If you really want to go anonymous, you can change your profile information—like name, account user name, and contact email—under Settings > Edit profile. You can also update your phone number under Settings > Change Phone Number.

Tap the blue Pay button, choose the recipient, enter the amount, and then tap Pay. Toggle the "Turn on for purchases" slider off. If "Turn on for purchases" is enabled, you'll see a green shield that indicates your payment is protected by Venmo's Purchase Protection Plan.

Pro tip: If you remove a friend on Venmo, they will not know you removed them. There is no alert or notification that results from removing a friend, so cleaning out your Venmo list knowing those you remove won't find out.
