^ A huge player 4,000 years before him.
People in Star Wars can barely remember the Force after just 30 years, how the heck would he remember a 4,000 year old dude?

@The Mechanical Menace. Because Kylo studied under Snoke, who was a pawn of Palpatine, who was "all the sith," and would therefore know all about Revan. It makes about as much sense as anything else in the ST,

^^We know of the Sumerian king Hammurabi, who inherited the Babylonian throne nearly 4000 years ago, do we not? Kylo was the son of a prominent senator in the New Republic, the Princess of Alderaan, two key players in the Rebellion. I’m sure he had a decent education. On top of that, he trained with Luke as one of his first Jedi students. I don’t know, but I feel he had a pretty good chance of being at least mildly aware of Revan.
To also point out, many of the people unaware of the Force are those who are on the outer reaches of the Galaxy, or far away from any civilization. It’s a big Galaxy, not everyone will know what everyone else knows. For example, Merrin was unaware of the Empire’s existence. Rey, to strengthen my example a bit, lived in the same relative solitude as Merrin, so she was fairly unaware of the Force, not to mention Rey had been orphaned and had zero education. I’d figure that during the Empire’s reign it would be taboo to talk of the Force, or the Jedi, so perhaps those born at the start, or during that period would not have as great of a knowledge, if any of the Force.
Yeah, they don’t look the same past the first glance. Revan’s is long, angular, and as observed above is a literal mask, not a full headgear. Kylo’s is rounder, mechanical, much different design and function.
I thought the visual evolution of Kylo was pretty cool, going from something very Vader-esq. to what would be used for the Guvavian Death Gang then to what we got.
The final design is sweet and I love that his mask serves as symbol of his Vader obsession, rejection, and finally surpassing throughout the trilogy. Good narrative use of a cool costume.
Pure coincidence
Coincidence caused by creatively bankrupt writing.
As an in universe explanation I’d say coincidence. We know he was obsessed with Vader, so my guess is he tried to make a helmet based off of Vader’s and it happened to look like Revan’s. It’s possible he was inspired by Revan too but I think it is unlikely simply because of how much he wanted to be like Vader.
To the earlier points about Revan coming 4000 years before Kylo I wouldn’t doubt that Kylo learned about him from Snoke but I do think it’s possible that he never knew what Revan looked like. Think about it the only way to see what Revan looked like would probably be a holocron and as far as I know, Revan only made one and Darth Bane destroyed it. (I could be wrong about there only being 1) We know about ancient figures of power today (like Hammurabi) but we don’t really know what they looked like.
As an out of universe explication I’d say that Disney was trying to blend Vader’s mask with Revan’s. They were probably trying to make a throwback to Vader’s mask so it would match Kylo’s character and also (maybe) make legends fans happy by honoring a really popular/important character. It could also be (and this is a stretch) a set up to eventually introduce Revan fully into cannon. Or they just lack all creativity and blended two things together because that’s the best they could do.
I say Darth Revan Force Ghost spoke to him and maybe modeled his helmet after Revan
Bad costume designers
Kylo may know about revan since revan is canon
What do you think?
