Reasons why Hosts may decline reservation requests

Double-check that the dates you want are available if you can't book. You may also want to message the Host by clicking or tapping Contact Host on the listing. They may have some requirements, like minimum nights to book, that your request doesn't meet. Still can't book your reservation?

The host needs to respond to your request

If the host declines your request or doesn't respond within 24 hours, the booking status will be updated as "Declined" or "Expired," and your payment will be refunded to your original payment method.

If your trip request is declined or expires

If the Host declines your request or lets it expire, you won't be charged and you're free to book a different stay. If you're still interested in booking the Host's place, you can learn more about what to do if your trip request is declined or expires.

Valid cancellation reasons include: Circ*mstances beyond the Host's control, such as major damage to a listing, emergency repairs (like a gas leak or a burst pipe), or serious personal illness that prevents hosting.

Occasionally, a reservation request may be declined if the Host's calendar is not up-to-date, and the dates aren't actually available. Guest is booking on behalf of someone else. Requests made on behalf of other people, like family members or friends, aren't allowed on Airbnb.

If your reservation request was declined and the listing for the stay shows that it's still available, the Host's calendar may not be up-to-date, they may want reservations of a different length or time, or they may have another reason for declining. Feel free to reach out to the Host directly.

Request declined

The Host has declined the guest's trip request, so they won't be charged.

After you submit a booking request, the host has 24 hours to accept or decline. If they don't respond, we'll automatically decline the request for you. If you haven't received a host response, try verifying that: You received an inquiry confirmation email from us.

Availability settings (ex: preparation time, advance notice, or minimum/maximum date settings) may interfere with a trip request. Airbnb can block your calendar if you haven't provided all the information required for your account.

When it's a good idea to reach out. Before sending a trip request: You could send a pre-emptive hello or double-check that their place is available. If you have a question: You should be clear about what to expect. Just check the listing description to make sure the answer isn't already there.

Haven't heard back? Most Hosts respond within a few hours, but time zones and lack of internet access might slow things down. In the meantime, try contacting other Hosts in the area. Just be careful not to send more than one trip request for the same dates to ensure you don't end up double-booked.

While it's rare, sometimes a Host may need to cancel a reservation. We understand this can impact your plans in a big way. Rest assured, if your Host cancels your reservation before check-in, you'll receive a full refund.

Hosts who cancel confirmed bookings without a valid reason may experience other consequences, as explained in our Terms of Service and ground rules for Hosts. For example, Hosts may have their Listing or account suspended or removed, and may lose their Superhost status.

As a host, if you cancel, an indelible mark appears on your reviews and in your statistics. As a guest, you can block a host's dates and cancel as many times as you want, it does not appear on your profile.

Identity verification, reservation screening, payment issues and listing availability are some reasons why you might not be able to complete a reservation.

We have implemented restrictions that prevent guests from making reservations for entire homes or private rooms when a pattern of factors suggest that the booking may present higher safety risks (such as parties). While we know this may be an inconvenience you still have options.
