Even biology supports the claim that the males of every species were born to be providers. It is part of men’s basic manly urge to want to feel needed and wanted by their female counterparts.

History and literature show how single women prefer rich men. At a time when women were unable to earn their own living, as they have been deprived during most of human history, they would, in fact, “marry for money” in order to survive.

For years, marriage was the only way a woman could gain status in society.

Women are earning their own paychecks and getting more advanced degrees than men. Given the privileges that they have right now, a woman can even decide not to choose a mate at all and be their own man.

Do women still want men in their lives?

The answer is yes. Women are still in need of men. And hypergamy, which, as it turns out, is still not obsolete. With all these equal earnings and educational opportunities, women still want rich men.

According to the Institute of Family Studies, even women with a high-credentialed education would still prefer a man who outearns them, even when the man of the house is inferior in intellect.

Women have always been and always will be in search of a mate that would boost their financial capability and status in life.

Does this mean women are natural gold diggers?

Well, if you only go through this hypergamy thing at its surface level, then, technically, you would come to the conclusion that women are indeed gold diggers.

However, you also need to understand the maternal instinct of a woman as much as you would understand the instinct of a man. Women value security and safety. This is the reason why possessing wealth or even having the ability to generate wealth is a strong attraction point for men to women.

They’d be very much willing to overlook educational inferiority as long as you can give them the assurance that you will be able to support and give them financial security.

What would it take for a man to get a woman?

One thing to keep in mind is that even with hypergamy, women still have a higher inherent worth than males on the dating market, as dictated by mating opportunities. Women will always be more attracted to guys who have a larger potential for creating wealth and who are prepared to share those resources as well.

To simplify, women are always trying to ‘marry up,’ while men are tending to mate ‘across and down.’

Men are taking back the reins

In this day and age, where it is socially dictated how equal rights and advantages should be imposed, men have found it difficult to be superior in wealth in their own environment.

But women are not the only ones evolving in this era. Men have also found a way to utilize women’s instincts to their advantage.

Men have gone out of their way in search of women to whom they can feel needed and wanted. This is theoretically the reason why most men have gone outside of their borders in search of women who are not necessarily inferior in wealth, education, and opportunities, but those that can feel secure with what they can offer.

While money in the bank can be a great influence, it still shouldn’t be a guarantee for men to get a woman. It is not the only variable in the equation. Stability, security, and safety could mean different things to women.

Let’s say that a woman did give you attention for your money and money-making attributes but generally speaking, the thing that can make a woman stay is when they see great potential in making a stable and secure relationship with a man they love and care for.

All in all: Yes, a man’s financial status is important to women — but, at the same time, it is not all that women look for in a partner.
