Is Zero VOC paint safe to breathe? ›
Avoid harsh chemical fumes with zero VOC paint
Even low VOC paints still off-gas and emit noticeable fumes. If you have no other option than to use a low-VOC paint, be sure to paint in a well-ventilated area using a respirator, and let the paint dry completely before moving back into the room.
Why does zero VOC paint still smell? ›
Even low or no VOC paints can have high emissions and odors. Low and no VOC paints still have VOCs, just not as many. When pigment, or color is added to paint, it raises the VOC levels. Odors can also come from other chemicals in the paint are not considered VOCs.
How long does zero VOC paint off gas? ›
VOCs emitted from paint do dissipate overtime, after the paint dries on the wall but this process can take a while with most dispelling within the first six months after application.

It depends. Modern paints that are non-toxic (i.e., no silicates or lead), non-odor, and no-VOC are safest to use around babies. But that doesn't mean there is no threat to your baby. Know the right painting processes and health information before you start your project.
