How do I know if I have a rare $1 coin? ›

One of the easiest ways to tell if a coin is rare is to check the date. If the coin is from before 1800, it's likely rare. Coins minted in the 19th century are also generally considered rare, with a few exceptions. Coins from the 20th century are less likely to be rare, but there are still some that meet the criteria.

Gold dollar coins vary greatly in numismatic value. Some gold dollar coins, especially common pieces in cull condition, are worth very little over their melt gold value. Other coins can be worth tens of thousands of dollars, especially if you find the right buyer.

Most Sacagawea coins are only worth one dollar. Because this coin was minted in such large quantities, it's not as valuable as some other coins. However, there are some exceptions to this. Rare Sacagawea coins do have some value.
