The Expanded Learning Opportunities Program (ELO-P) provides funding for afterschool and summer school enrichment programs for transitional kindergarten through sixth grade.

The expenditure deadline for 2021–22 and 2022–23 funding is June 30, 2024 EC Section 46120(d)(6). LEAs will be required to submit an expenditure report to the CDE for 2021–22 and 2022–23 ELO Program funds after the expenditure deadline. The deadline for submitting the expenditure report to CDE is September 30, 2024.

ELO-P is state-level funding, unique to California, and applies for grades kindergarten through 6 (K-6). It is intended specifically to create and/or support programs that “do not replicate learning activities in the regular school day and school year.”

The Expanded Learning Opportunities Program (ELOP) was designed by the State of California to provide students before-school, after-school, summer, or intersession, hands-on, engaging learning experiences and programs that focus on developing: - Academic Skills and Mastery. - Social-Emotional Competency.

Priority enrollment is for unduplicated populations (identified by CJUSD as experiencing homelessness, foster, free and reduced lunch, and English Language Learners). The Expanded Learning Opportunities Program will be available for CJUSD TK through 6th-grade students.

Expanded learning is defined by the California Department of Education as “before school, after school, summer, or intersession learning programs that focus on developing the academic, social, emotional, and physical needs and interests of students through hands-on, engaging learning experiences.”

An extended learning opportunity is considered a career guidance structured activity providing career awareness, exploration, and/or career guidance occurring in the classroom and/or school setting. • An ELO is not a WBL experience.

Under the direction of the Dean, Expanded Learning and the principal or Designee, works at various school sites of the District and provides a safe and nurturing environment for children, implement educational, literacy, and enrichment age appropriate curriculum to large groups of children.
