Step by Step Method
Heat a heavy bottomed pan. Add the peanuts and roast them in low to medium flame until crisp. Remove and set a side. In the same add the roasted chana dal and light toast them. Set a side.
Add a tsp of oil and fry the chopped Curry leaves. Set a side.
In a small cup add all the dry ingredients – turmeric powder, red chilly powder, asafoetida, salt and cumin powder. Mix well.
In the same pan, add the rest of the oil. When the oil gets hot, add the mustard seeds. Allow them to pop. Now reduce the heat to low, add in the cumin seeds. Sautee for few seconds. Add the spice mixture and cook for 15 -20 seconds. Not more than that, if not the spices will burn.Mix well.
Add in the corn cereal, roasted peanuts, dalia and curry leaves.
Gently mix till thecorn flakescereal is coated with all the spice mixture. Turn off the heat. Cool completely and store the chivda in a air tight container.
Enjoy the corn flakes chivda as a snack with coffee or tea.
