1991 – 25 years ago
• The Rochester School Board reaffirmed its support for sixth- through eighth-grade middle schools. The board will hold public hearings before adopting a final plan.
• The new pedestrian bridge spanning the Zumbro River is taking shape as a 32-ton middle span was put into place. The bridge will be 155 feet long and will replace one that was removed in the early 1980s in advance of flood-control work.
1966 – 50 years ago
• The members of the Austin Restaurant Association have agreed to raise the price of a cup of coffee to 15 cents. Coffee went from five cents to a dime a cup in 1950. In Rochester, restaurant owners are holding the line on the price of a cup of coffee at 10 cents.
• About 250 class members and their families attended the wrap-up picnic of the Rochester High School Class of 1956 reunion held at Slatterly Park.
1941 – 75 years ago
• A short wave broadcast from Rochester, England, to Rochester, Minn. is scheduled for this week. The broadcast on "London Calling" can be heard on the following short wave length: 25:53 meters, 11 megacycles or 31.32 meters, 9.58 megacycles. A local committee has been formed to coordinate shipping needed supplies to England.
• The Home Bakery has these Saturday specials; Fresh Lime Angel Food Cake with lime icing for 44 cents; Butter Rum Cake for 35 cents, Pecan Crunch and Ice Box cookies for 15 cents a dozen.

• A trapeze, teeter-totter, giant slide and basketball apparatus are now in place on the playground of the Bamber Valley School. Much of the construction and credit goes to Mr. Quimby of the high school who teaches agriculture and manual training.
• The celebration and banquet of 50 years as an organized church was held at the Universalist church. Nearly two hundred members attended the event and the banquet prepared by the ladies of the church.

Star Jones Reynolds was booted from "The View," one day after surprising ABC and Barbara Walters by saying on the air that she wouldn't be returning to the daytime talk show in the fall.
Five years ago:Taliban fighters raided an international hotel in Kabul and killed 10 people on the eve of a conference to discuss plans for Afghan forces to take over security when international troops left by the end of 2014. French Finance Minister Christine Lagarde was chosen to lead the International Monetary Organization. Former All-Star goalie Ed Belfour was elected to the Hockey Hall of Fame in his first year of eligibility, joining Doug Gilmour, Mark Howe and Joe Nieuwendyk as inductees.
One year ago:Authorities in upstate New York captured David Sweat, one of two convicted murderers who'd escaped from the Clinton Correctional Facility on June 6; Sweat was apprehended two days after his fellow escapee, Richard Matt, was shot and killed in a confrontation with law enforcement. After 18 straight successful launches, SpaceX's Falcon 9 rocket broke apart minutes after soaring away from Cape Canaveral, Florida, while carrying supplies for the International Space Station. Comedian Jack Carter, 93, died in Beverly Hills, California.
