Do Ivy League schools truly care about AP scores? (2024)

Hi all, I've been hearing mixed opinions about whether Ivy League schools really care about AP exam scores. How much do my AP scores actually matter when applying?

Hi there! I understand your concern about the importance of AP exam scores when applying to Ivy League schools. Both my child and I have done some research on this topic, and here's what we've found.

While AP exam scores can certainly showcase your academic strength, they are typically not the most critical part of your application. What Ivy League schools value the most are your transcript, extracurricular activities, essays, and recommendations.

However, strong AP scores can indeed be a positive addition to your application, as they show your commitment and ability to handle college-level courses. In my child's experience, they took a handful of AP classes and scored mostly 4s and 5s. They are currently attending an Ivy League institution, so the AP scores weren't a hindrance.

In a nutshell, while AP exam scores are not necessarily make-or-break factors for Ivy League admissions, they can still positively contribute to your overall application. Best of luck!
