iPhone users aren’t the only ones who can suffer from the annoying fate of limited storage space. Since both Android and iPhone rely heavily on the apps that you use, both are susceptible to losing storage space, which of course sends you scrambling on a quest for last-minute ways to gain back space so that you can continue using your device as you normally would. One of the best ways to prevent space issues is by knowing which apps are most consuming in this area. You can then decide if it’s worth keeping all of those apps, deleting a few that no longer serve you, or adjusting the ways you use them to conserve as much space as possible.
Mohit Maheshwari, the chief strategist at NMG Technology, has over two decades of experience in the IT industry, and says that these are the three most commonappsthat take up the most space onAndroid.
Social MediaApps
As you may have already guessed, social mediaappssuch as Facebook, Instagram, and Twitter tend to consume a significant amount of storage space, Maheshwari confirms. And when you think about all of the ways they work hard to deliver the experience you expect of them, it’s easy to see why. “Theseappsstore a large number of images, videos, and other media files on the user’s device, which can quickly add up and take up a lot of space,” Maheshwari says.
StreamingApps
Not far behind social media apps you’ll find streaming apps sucking up valuable storage space in order to deliver to you great entertainment content (that may be worth the storage trade-off). “Streamingappslike Netflix, Amazon Prime Video, and Spotify also tend to consume a lot of storage space,” Maheshwari confirms. “Theseappsdownload and store large media files on the user’s device, such as movies, TV shows, and music, which can quickly take up a significant amount of storage space.”
GamingApps
Gamingapps, especially those with high-quality graphics and 3D models, tend to consume a lot of storage space, Maheshwari says. “Theseappsstore a large number of game files and assets on the user’s device, which can quickly take up a lot of space,’ he adds. So, while they’re excellent at distracting us when we need a break from work or our daily routines, it may be worth it to scale down on the number of games you download so that you aren’t eating away at all of your Android’s storage space.
How can you continue using these apps?
It isn’t always convenient to suggest that someone delete all of their social media and streaming apps to save storage space. If getting rid of what you have isn’t an option, the next best thing to do is negotiate other ways you can conserve storage space.
“To continue using theseappswithout affecting storage as much, there are a few things that users can do,” Maheshwari says. “Firstly, they can regularly delete unnecessary files and media from theseappsto free up space. Secondly, they can set theappsto only download media files when connected to Wi-Fi, rather than using cellular data. Finally, they can consider using cloud storage services like Google Drive or Dropbox to store media files instead of storing them locally on their device. By following these steps, users can continue to use theseappswithout worrying about them consuming too much storage space.”
