Q. 1. Why do some Catholics kiss the ring of Bishops?
A. 1. The kissing of a Bishop's ring is an ancient custom that echoes a sign of respect for the office of bishop.
In a country such as Asia, the people bow. In some cultures people kiss cheeks. For Catholics, some kiss the ring of a bishop. That does not mean that we think the bishop is more holy or better than us or that we are to be their slave. In fact, the Catholic Church teaches that priests, bishops and even the pope are to be our servants.
Kissing the Bishop's ring is an act of humility. The bible teaches that it is good for us to show signs of humility.
