(SO) is a reactive diatomic molecule which is isoelectronic with molecular oxygen. SO is extensively studied for its role in atmospheric chemistry and astrochemistry, where it has been identified in the atmosphere of Venus, comets, and Jupiter's moons in small quantities (18CC1690).
Term. The most common sulphur oxide is sulphur dioxide (SO2). Sulphur trioxide (SO3) is an intermediate product during the manufacture of sulphuric acid (contact process). Sulphur dioxide is a colourless gas with a penetrating, choking odour.
Sulfur oxide refers to many types of sulfur and oxygen containing compounds such as SO, SO2, SO3, S7O2, S6O2, S2O2, etc. Sulfur oxide (SOx) refers to one or more of the following: Lower sulfur oxides (SnO, S7O2 and S6O2) Sulfur monoxide (SO) and its dimer, Disulfur dioxide (S2O2)
The officer in charge of a police station is known as the Station Officer (S.O.) or Station House Officer (S.H.O). A Police Chowki is supervised by a Sub-Inspector or an Assistant Sub-Inspector of Police.
A gas is a substance that is in a gaseous, or vaporous, state of matter. The term gas is also used in reference to the state itself when applied to matter that has the properties of a gaseous substance. Gas is one of four natural states of matter, along with liquid, solid and plasma. A gas has no fixed shape or volume.
Everything around us is made up of one of these things - it's either a solid, liquid or gas and you can see on the wall here each has an abbreviation in brackets underneath it (s) for solid, liquid is (l), gas is (g) and 'aqueous' means something that is dissolved in water and the abbreviation for this is (aq).
Sulfur is used in the vulcanisation of black rubber, as a fungicide and in black gunpowder. Most sulfur is, however, used in the production of sulfuric acid, which is perhaps the most important chemical manufactured by western civilisations.
R and S stand for Latin words that mean right and left, respectively; and that is more or less how the label is determined. Carbons that have two hydrogens attached to it are never chiral centers, and carbons that have four different atoms attached, say a carbon, hydrogen, oxygen, and sulfur, are always chiral centers.
The fact that SO2 forms instead of SO is a result of the [redundant answer] thermodynamics favor SO2 over SO. Given that simple fact here is a quantum mechanical rationalization: Sulfur can expand its octet, which means in SO2 it has 12 electrons 'around' it.
In Chemistry, OS means the Original Solution. * The original solution (OS) of the salt can be prepared by mixing a small amount of the inorganic salt with water and acid. * To prepare original solution small quantity of substance is shaken with cold, distilled water.
The term chemistry is said to derive from the Greek word “khemeia”, which means "cast together." It is the atomic-level science of matter. Chemistry is the study of matter, including what it is made of, its characteristics, and how it changes.
The name “SO” is the combination of Sulphur (S) and Oxygen (O). Usually, you'll see it in compounds which contain sulphur in them. However, it will always be accompanied by a 4 (SO4) because there are 4 oxygen atoms surrounding the one sulphur atom.
