Happiness
Happiness is a unique attribute in the Pokemon World. This page details how to raise happiness and how to check happiness in Pokemon Sun and Moon. Happiness is entirely different from Affection raised in Pokemon Refresh!

All Pokemon will have zero happiness when first captured, unless you use a Luxury Ball to capture them. The happiness of the Pokemon will slowly build over time. There are a few things you can do or avoid doing to make sure a Pokemon's happiness level increases quickly.

How to Raise Happiness in Pokemon Sun and Moon
- Use the Pokemon in battle
- Catch the Pokemon in a Luxury Ball
- Use Vitamins on the Pokemon
- Allow the Pokemon to hold the item Soothe Bell
- Give it massages from the Masseuse in Konikoni City.
- Feed it a meal from the Restaurants Rare Kitchen, Friendship Cafe, Friendship Parlor, or Battle Table in the Festival Plaza.
Use Berries
These Berries increase Happiness while lowering EV points (which is actually very helpful when EV Training). While holding the Soothe Bell, most Pokemon will reach max Happiness after consuming 20 of these berries.

How to Lower Happiness
- Allow the Pokemon to faint in battle
- Use bitter items on the Pokemon
- Keep the Pokemon stored in the PC

In the same market where the Masseuse is inKonikoni City is a woman who will tell you about your Pokemon's Happiness. If she says, "My! It feels incredibly close to you! Nothing makes it happier than being with you!" you know your Pokemon is as happy as it can possibly be.
Attacks Affected by Happiness
Happiness is used to calculate the attack power of the attacks Return and Frustration. The higher the happiness, the stronger Return will be, and the lower the happiness, the stronger Frustration will be.

Pokemon Who Evolve with Happiness
Certain Pokemon can only evolve if they are friendly enough toward you. Sometimes Happiness is needed along with an item, select time, or select location to evolve.
