There are two main reasons why you should use port 587 instead of port 25 to send email using authenticated SMTP.

1. Some Internet service providers such as AOL and Orange block access to 3rd party mailservers on port 25. As a result, you will need to send E-mail to our servers using “Authenticated SMTP” on port 587.
2. Some Internet service providers provide dynamic IP address ranges which often appear on spam blacklists which prevent you from using port 25.

To change the outbound port from 25 to 587 please use the instructions below.

Outlook Express

1. Open Outlook Express.
2. From the Outlook Express Tools menu, click Accounts
3. Click the Mail tab
4. Select your email account
5. In the Properties dialog box, click the Servers tab
6. Click the Advanced tab
7. View the Outgoing mail (SMTP) Port
8. Change the port from 25 to 587 and save changes.

Outlook 2000

1. Open Outlook 2000
2. Click the Tools menu and then click Accounts
3. Select your email account
4. Click Properties
5. In the Properties dialog box, click the Servers tab
6. Click the Advanced tab
7. View the Outgoing mail (SMTP) Port
