What happens when online banking is locked? ›

If your online banking is locked, there must be a reason. It could be that your balance is negative, and your local branch could tell you what your debits were. It could be that you deposited a check that was no good. Maybe you overdrew your account by not entering an ATM withdrawal.

If you find yourself being locked out of online banking (even though you know your password is right!), it could be caused by not properly logging out the last time you accessed your online banking via the mobile app or web browser.

Contact your bank to see what steps must be taken and confirm they haven't made a mistake. Check your bank statements for any unusual activity that might have caused the account lock. If your account is locked and you have any outstanding outgoing payments, contact anyone you wrote checks to and explain the situation.

If your online banking account is locked, the best course of action is to contact your bank's customer support immediately.

Don't worry, you can still use your debit card at ATMs and to pay for things. But you'll need to unlock it to use with your card reader in Online Banking.

Make sure you have cleared temporary internet files and cookies and your browser has extensions and add-ons disabled. If needed, also try restarting your device and router, and try a wired connection.
