Biography[]
Past[]
Mithrix lived on a distant planet with his brother, Providence when they were both young. Mithrix, the older and wiser of the two, saw everything as a construct of four main elements, those being Matter, Design, Soul, and Blood. He and Providence would throw fruit into the gravity wells located on his farm. The two brothers created Petrichor V, as well as many of the items. Eventually, the two began to disagree on what to use Petrichor V for - Providence wishing to bring near-extinct creatures to the planet and saving them, whereas Mithrix viewed them as below him and wished to seek out more of their kind - demigods. When the first Teleporter was created, Providence betrayed Mithrix and trapped him on the moon of Petrichor V - Commencement. Mithrix could only watch as Providence introduced many creatures to the planet, which he viewed as vermin infesting his planet.
Death[]
The Survivor eventually found a teleporter that led them to the Moon (Commencement), after fighting Lunar Chimera and charging the Pillars they fight and apparently kill Mithrix. After the death of Mithrix, the Moon and all Lunar Chimera are pulled into the Void by Void Reavers.
Appearance[]
Mithrix is a tall, muscular alien creature, resembling the material the Lunar Chimeras are built from. He is quite slender, but incredibly strong. He carries a massive sledgehammer with a blue gem embedded in its side. The gem will glow similarly to the Lunar Chimera Wisps in Phase 2, emitting blue flames. He wears a crown with two flat horns that poke out from the sides of the crown, making an anvil-like shape. He has one glowing blue eye, and the rest of his face is obscured by his crown, similar to his brother Providence.
Powers and Abilities[]
Combat[]
Mithrix is a formidable opponent, facing the Survivor at the end of a run, where they have presumably accumulated a large quantity of items and become extremely powerful. During his fight, he can:
- Swing his hammer with extreme force, creating shockwaves
- Dash at superhuman speeds
- Leap extremely high
- Fire needles at will
- Erect pillars from the ground
- Summon blue flames (pillars and horizontal columns) and Lunar Orbs
- Create/Summon the Lunar Chimeras (Golem, Wisp and Exploder)
- Create portals
Misc.[]
After Mithrix is defeated, he begins the process of detonating the moon, during which the Survivor must escape back to the Rescue Ship and defend it until fully charged. During this event, horizontal rows of lunar flame similar to the ones used in his attacks will sporadically appear and detonate, dealing heavy damage to the player if caught in the area of effect.
In the lore, Mithrix and Providence created Petrichor V, although Mithrix preferred designing to constructing. However, when Providence strayed from his designs and created Aurelionite, Mithrix created the Lunar Chimeras himself to serve as guardians. Mithrix also presumably created the Primordial Teleporter that spawns on Sky Meadow in place of the regular Teleporter, which is referenced by the item logs.
Trivia[]
- The four elements - Mass, Design, Soul & Blood - correspond to the four types of pillars that spawn on Commencement. These pillars will usually be charged to reach Mithrix.
- Mithrix's Needle Burst attack is similar to the ability granted by the Visions of Heresy item.
- The Lunar Items - blue rarity items that grant powerful buffs at the cost of a hefty drawback - are believed to have been created by Mithrix, as suggested by the item logs. Conversely, Providence may have created the Cleansing Pools, which allow Lunar Items to be 'cleansed' and exchanged for a Pearl/Irradiant Pearl.
- The logbook entry of Mithrix states he would sometimes throw worms to the gravity wells out of curiosity. Providence is stated to have loved worms, which may reference the Gilded Wurms Providence summons in his bossfight.
- The Moon and Mithrix's Lunar Chimera were likely all pulled into the Void.
