Netflix Canada's New Romantic Drama: Unveiling 'The Granville Girls' (2025)

Get ready for a captivating journey with Netflix Canada's latest romantic drama, 'The Granville Girls'! This eight-part series, crafted by the talented Adriana Maggs and Shaftesbury, is set to sweep you off your feet. Based on Cat Cahill's captivating book series, 'The Gilbert Girls', it promises an adventure like no other.

In the heart of the Canadian Rockies, our protagonist, Emma Daniels, embarks on a life-changing journey as a 'Granville Girl'. She joins a select group of women employed at the prestigious Granville Hotel, where she finds not only a sense of purpose but also the promise of adventure and lasting friendships. But here's where it gets intriguing: the hotel has a strict rule - no fraternizing with the men. Will Emma be able to resist, or will her heart lead her down a different path?

Maggs, a renowned writer, producer, and director, brings her expertise to this project. With credits like 'Law & Order Toronto: Criminal Intent' and 'Frontier' under her belt, she serves as the writer and showrunner. Her directorial skills were showcased in the 2010 film 'Grown Up Movie Star', featuring Tatiana Maslany, Shawn Doyle, and Jonny Harris.

Jennings, the Chairman, President, and founder of Shaftesbury, takes on the role of executive producer. In her statement, she expressed excitement about partnering with Netflix and Maggs, highlighting the Rocky Mountains as the perfect backdrop for this tale of adventure, friendship, and romance.

Danielle Woodrow and Tara Woodbury, Netflix's Directors of Content for Canada, shared their enthusiasm: "'The Granville Girls' is a grand series that blends the warmth of female camaraderie with the allure of a bygone era. With Maggs' unique voice and Christina's formidable producing skills, we're certain audiences will be captivated from the very beginning."

While Netflix may not be a prolific commissioner in Canada, they've made notable orders, including the sci-fi series 'Travelers' and an untitled drama from Jesse McKeown, filmed and set in Newfoundland. Additionally, they've produced numerous U.S. series in Canada and established a significant production studio in Toronto.

The streamer has also acquired international rights to several co-productions with Canadian partners. For instance, 'Frontier', on which Maggs worked as a writer, was co-produced with Discovery Canada, with Netflix joining the project in 2016 for international distribution. More recently, the critically acclaimed 'North of North', an Arctic-themed sitcom, was co-ordered by Netflix, CBC, and APTN, and was renewed for a second season earlier this year.

Other Canadian shows to look forward to include 'Wayward', the Mae Martin drama series that premiered on September 25, and 'Who Killed The Montreal Expos?', set to release on October 21.

So, are you ready to dive into the world of 'The Granville Girls'? This series promises an immersive experience, and we can't wait to see how it unfolds! What do you think? Will it live up to the hype? Share your thoughts in the comments!
