SBI R3 Japan is a joint venture established by SBI Holdings, Inc. and R3, an American fintech company that excels in blockchain and distributed ledger technology (DLT). R3, whose largest shareholder is the SBI Group, leads the development of Corda, a blockchain platform dedicated to business-to-business transactions. Over 300 members worldwide participating in R3’s ecosystem, including financial institutions, regulatory authorities, central banks, industry associations, system integrators and software vendors.
Developed under the leadership of financial institutions, who are the end users, Corda is an enterprise blockchain platform based on the architectural concept of eliminating the risk of vendor lock-in and offers the advantages of confidentiality and interconnectivity, which are essential in financial transactions. A number of financial institutions, both in Japan and overseas, are participating in trial experiments and there are already commercial uses of Corda.
