Sending Packages via USPS & FedEx Self-Service Kiosk (2024)

You can complete the process of dropping off packages yourself by Self-Service Kiosk.

USPS, UPS and FedEx support self-shipping, so if you want to spend less time waiting in line and dealing with the staff, you can choose this option.

You can complete the shipping process by scanning, printing, and dropping it off at the carrier's self-service kiosks. These self-service kiosks are located at select USPS, UPS and FedEx office locations.

What is a Self-Service Kiosk

A shipping self-service kiosk is a type of automated machine that is designed to allow customers to purchase postage, print shipping labels, and send packages without the need for assistance from a postal clerk or shipping agent. These kiosks are typically found in post offices or other shipping-related locations and are available for use 24/7.

Customers can use a shipping self-service kiosk to weigh their packages, choose a shipping option, and pay for postage with a credit or debit card. The kiosk will then print out a shipping label that can be attached to the package, and the package can be deposited in a nearby designated location for pickup by the shipping carrier.

Shipping self-service kiosks are a convenient option for customers who need to ship packages outside of regular post office hours or who prefer to avoid waiting in line to see a postal clerk. They are also an efficient way to purchase postage and ship packages quickly and easily.

Most USPS Self-Service Kiosks are open 24 hours a day, 7 days a week. There is no additional cost to use USPS Self-Service Kiosks, which can be found in postal lobbies and offer services such as:
  • Weighing letters, flats, and parcels up to 70 pounds
  • Purchasing variable rate postage in any denomination for Priority Mail Express®, Priority Mail®, First-Class Mail® and USPS Retail Ground® services
  • Purchasing Delivery Confirmation™, Signature Confirmation™, Insurance, Certified, and Return Receipt After Mailing™ services
  • Printing Priority Mail Express forms
  • Purchasing stamps
  • Renewing your Post Office Box™
  • Printing a receipt with the USPS Tracking® number

To find a USPS Self-Service Kiosk, check the USPS website for the Self-Service Kiosk closest to you. Next, enter your city and state or your zip code, and then search for the postal facilities with the nearest self-service kiosk to the location you entered.

If you haven't purchased a label yet, click on the type of service you need at the self-service kiosk, then select your package type, enter the address information of the place of receipt and delivery, and you can get a label to start shipping!

If you already have a label or a QR code, you can select the service type to drop off your package or scan the QR code to print a free label. Also, use ShipSaving to purchase a discounted label and then go to a USPS Self-Service Kiosk to drop off your package to save even more time!

Please note that the package size for self-service kiosks cannot exceed the maximum box size for USPS Priority Mail Box (up to 12 inches high by 14 inches deep by 20 inches wide).

FedEx's Ship and Go are for package delivery only and cannot be used to purchase labels. Anyone can use the self-service kiosks, and if you don't want to wait in line and your package meets the criteria, they are a great way to speed up your shipping experience. In addition, FedEx's self-service kiosks require only three simple steps to complete the delivery process.

Bring in your prepackaged item to select FedEx Office locations and head to the Ship and Go kiosk:

1. Scan your mobile shipping label barcode or a FedEx-issued QR code to print your shipping label.

2. Scan your shipping label barcode to print a receipt.

3. Drop off your box safely and securely without waiting in line.

Please bring your pre-packaged parcel and use the "Find Locations" feature on the official UPS website to locate the nearest UPS Self-Service Kiosks:
  1. Scan the barcode of your shipping label to input the information into the system, or scan the QR code on your shipping label to print your label.
  2. Follow the on-screen prompts and complete any required questions, and the machine will automatically print a receipt for you.
  3. Place your package in the designated box, and the process is complete.

Final Words

While you can use the kiosks to ship a variety of packages, the system will tell you what you can and cannot ship as you use it. However, if you have any questions, simply ask a USPS or FedEx employee and they will be able to help you understand the rules.
