The texting habit women do that men hate (2024)

If you write out messages line by line instead of sending them in one text then you are guilty of a habit that men hate most, a leading dating expert has revealed.

Relationship expert and matchmaker Louanne Ward, from Perth, said this approach annoys men for a number of reasons as it can 'feel controlling and embarrassing' when their phone keeps flashing or beeping.

'The woman is doing the initiation and controlling the pace and tone of the conversation,' Louanne told FEMAIL.

'When being pinged little one liner messages like a machine gun one after the next that are all part of the same message, [men] don’t get a chance to reply and things also get lost in translation.'

Men also feel obligated to reply to each and every message or run the risk of 'being accused of not replying' to one or all of the elements.

'Many don't like the sound of repeated notifications, which can be both annoying and embarrassing,' Louanne said.

The matchmaker explained that when you send a message in multiple parts, men feel as though the conversation has become 'fragmented' or inconsistent.

'They might have to go back and re-read it multiple times to answer it so it takes them twice as long,' she said.

Because men by nature don't spend as much time communicating via text, she added that for them it can feel like 'pressure or dominance'.

Louanne (pictured) said many women message this way because they don't like being ignored by men and take the opportunity to get as much out as possible

But why do we as women so often like to send messages in this way?

According to Louanne, the main reason is because they don't like being ignored.

'We take the opportunity to get as much out as possible when we know a guy is on his device, whereas if we send one long message he might disappear,' she said.

This tactic is often used because women are looking for immediate answers.

* Being read and not replied to

* One or two word answers

* Only being told 'I love you' by text messages not in person

* Being dumped via text message

* Being replied to with just an emoji or starting/having conversations with emojis and not words

* Being called 'my dear', 'darling', 'sweetheart', 'honey' etc prematurely

There are many texting habits men and women have that annoy the other sex, Louanne (pictured) said, including when women ask trivial questions all day

Texting line by line isn't the only messaging habit that women have that men hate, Louanne said.

She also said that messaging all day asking trivial questions like 'how's your day going?' and using too many emojis as habits that drive men mad.

On the flipside, Louanne said women hate when men leave them unread, using one or two word answers and sarcastic messages that can be read two ways.

'Vague messages that skip around a question are a big no no of women's, which men sometimes do,' she said.

For example, a woman might ask 'are we catching up tomorrow?' and a man will reply: 'I will try'.

'It's not a clear yes or no and leaves a woman hanging,' Louanne said.
