Tinned Smoked Oysters: A divisive delicacy on Today
Today's newsreader, Jayne Azzopardi, sparked a heated debate among her co-hosts when she suggested tinned smoked oysters as a tasty treat for family BBQs. The idea of canned seafood divided opinions, with some embracing the snack and others vehemently rejecting it.
Jayne, undeterred by the potential controversy, brought the controversial delicacy to the show, along with a box of Jatz crackers. She claimed that a poll on Instagram revealed a split in opinions, with half of the respondents in agreement with her and the other half supporting her co-hosts, Karl and Sarah.
"Most of those in the no column have likely never tried it," she said, downplaying the strong smell of the oysters. "But I assure you, it's a taste sensation worth experiencing."
Fill-in sport presenter Michael Atkinson, who had tried the snack before, seemed to agree, munching on an oyster before his segment. Surprisingly, Sarah, who was initially reluctant, also gave in and took a bite, describing it as reminiscent of a 1980s cocktail party.
Jayne argued that, despite the cost-of-living pressures, the smoked oysters at $3.60 per tin were an affordable and tasty option for social gatherings or a relaxing weekend with a glass of wine. However, Karlos had a different reaction, almost immediately spitting out the oyster and expressing his disgust.
"I don't care how dire the cost of living is," he said. "Tinned oysters are awful and disgusting. It's like eating a Dunlop Volley."
The debate sparked a question: Can tinned oysters on a Jatz cracker be considered a good entertainment snack? The audience is invited to share their thoughts and join the discussion on Facebook.
