September 2023 Gasoline Price Updates
So, where's the cheapest gas as of September 2023?
- Mississippi has the cheapest gasoline prices in the U.S., where the average cost is $3.29 per gallon. It also has the least expensive diesel prices out of the Top 10 states.
- Louisiana has the second-cheapest gas, with the average cost hitting $3.36 per gallon.
- Coming in third place is Texas, with gas prices at $3.38 per gallon.
Further Findings
- California has the most expensive gas prices, with an average cost of $5.33 per gallon of gas, which is $2.24more expensive than Mississippi.
- Mississippi, Texas, Louisiana, Missouri, and Oklahoma had the top 5 least expensive diesel prices, with Mississippi and Texas under $4 per gallon.
According to data from the Energy Information Administration (EIA), gas demand increased slightly from 8.91 to 9.07 million b/d the last week of August. Meanwhile, total domestic gasoline stocks took a slight step back to 217.4 million bbl. Although demand has increased, fluctuating oil prices have limited pump price increases. Prices stayed in "neutral" through the Labor Day weekend.
