If you don’t have Wi-Fi or a data network while setting up your new phone, return to setup when a connection is available.
You can restore content, data and settings from an old device through Google One*. While setting up your device, skip setting up from another device and choose to restore data from an old device.
Make sure you connect to a Wi-Fi network or data network and sign into your Google Account during device setup to view and select your available backups.
Your new Android device may have a different version of Android. We recommend using a cable to transfer your data.
If the new device was already set up and you would still like to transfer your data, you have to reset your device (if you reset your device, your content on your new device will be erased). For more info on transferring via cable, check out the Help Center.
On your old device, go to settings within WhatsApp and select the option to backup your chats. When you open WhatsApp on your new device for the first time, follow the on-screen instructions until you are asked if you want to restore your chats from a previous backup.

Regardless of the device you're switching from, don't switch your SIM card until the entire transfer is complete. Before you get started, you'll also want to make sure both your old device and new device have at least 20% battery life.

We recommend you connect both of your devices to Wi-Fi. You can use the cable or wireless option to transfer data. Both methods support the same data. If you use a cable, make sure that the cable fits into both of your devices.
When you insert your SIM card into another phone, you transfer that information to the new device. Your phone number does not change when you transfer phones using your SIM card because your number is linked to the SIM card and the mobile network rather than the specific phone.
In theory, prepaid SIM cards can be used on unlocked phones since they're not tied to a specific carrier. Just purchase a prepaid SIM card from the carrier of your choice and pop it into your refurbished phone. Phones that are locked to a single carrier won't work using a prepaid SIM card.

Note: You may only transfer content from a non-Galaxy phone to a Galaxy phone with Smart Switch; it does not work the other way around. Does Smart Switch need to be installed on both devices or only on the new one? For Android devices, Smart Switch should be installed on both devices.
Now you can transfer your contacts into your new phone using your old SIM. If you're transferring to a new Android phone, insert the old SIM and open Contacts, then Settings > Import/Export > Import from SIM card. If you're transferring to a new iPhone, go to Settings > Contacts and then Import SIM contacts.
