How do I activate my SMU account? ›

Go to the "Activate Your Account" page. Enter your A-Number and PIN (your initial PIN is your date of birth in DDMMYY format) Create your account password. An S-Number and SMU email will then be displayed for your use and to access to various systems (as explained on that page).

Saint Mary's Students, or anyone signing in using an S#, must reset their password using the SMU Activate site (https://activate.smu.ca). All guests, visiting students, AST students, and anyone NOT using an S# to sign-in, please enter your username below and you will receive a password reset link by email.

To access Brightspace you need to go to SMUport link on the SMU home page, log in with your "s-number", and click on the "My Courses" link.

The SMU UserID (or commonly known as SMU Login ID) is an active directory for all SMU faculty, staff, students and affiliates to connect to the University networks and access University IT resources.

Please Note: The username is typically your eight-digit SMU ID number, but your email address can also be used for many services.

How long can I use my SMU email address after graduation? Students will retain the use of their SMU email account upon graduation.

The SMU Email account is created in conjunction with the normal account creation process. For students, this process occurs upon acceptance into the University. Faculty and Staff accounts are created automatically based on employment data.

Changing Passwords

Self-Service Banner passwords can only be changed within Self-Service Banner, by going to the "Personal Information" tab and clicking "Change your PIN." If you have forgotten your Self-Service Banner PIN, click here. Computer account passwords expire every 90 days.

How do I reset my SMU Help Desk password? ›

Reset your password via a email request to helpdesk@smu.edu.sg. Reset your password at IT Help Centre (immediate reset of password) during office hours from Mon-Fri: 8:00am -7:00pm (Last walk-in 6:30pm). IT Help Centre is closed on Sat, Sun and Public Holidays.

Resetting Your Password

Password Tools are located at smu.edu/password. This application will allow you to reset your SMU password any time of the day or night and immediately gain access to your accounts. In order to use this service, you will first need to sign up or enroll in the password reset application.

Your SMU email is the primary method of communication between students, professors, and different offices at SMU. Your email has the format cuser@smu.edu. To log in to your email account, use your SMU email and password at webmail.smu.edu. Click on the Microsoft 365 button to access your email.

Select Course Offering Information. Go down to the Active heading and select the Course is active checkbox. Select Save. Your Brightspace course will now be visible and accessible to students.

Instructions for Connecting to the SMU Wireless Networks

Locate the WiFi settings on your device. Connect to SMU_Guest. Launch a web browser (Firefox, Safari, Chrome or Internet Explorer). If the portal page does not appear, type in a web address such as smu.edu and hit enter.

From the Mail screen, tap Accounts > Add Account. 3. Tap Exchange and enter your email address, password, and an optional description. Then tap Next.
