God of War Ragnarok features many memorable characters, but only one can take the title of most annoying. Past entries in the series have typically had particularly vexing characters for players and Kratos to turn their ire toward. This happened more often in the Greek saga, which added a sense of satisfaction to Kratos’ quest for vengeance. As he has moved on from this impetus in the Norse saga, the supporting characters have felt more understandable and relatable; however, that doesn’t mean there aren’t any annoying characters in the game.

Historically, the most irritating characters have been Kratos’ antagonists, although, his allies aren’t entirely removed from the conversation. Atreus is sometimes annoying, given his penchant for causing chaos, intentional or not. This comes with his age, so it's hard to fault him for it. For some, the annoying characters could be those with little screen time or a perceived small effect on the story, like Skjoldr, who is actually important in Ragnarok’s story. The most annoying character in God of War Ragnarok, however, follows tradition of being an enemy of Kratos.

God of War Ragnarök’s Most Irritating Character Is Heimdall

Heimdall is by far the most annoying god in God of War Ragnarok. He makes this apparent in his first appearance when he dangles Atreus over Hrimthur’s Wall in Asgard, carelessly threatening to drop him to his death. This action clearly defines Heimdall as a bully, a role he leans into as the story progresses. Further examples of his annoyingly antagonistic behavior include his overly harsh scolding of Thrud and Atreus in Helheim after they botched their mission. The Aesir gods aren’t particularly kind or forgiving, but Heimdall always takes his taunts way farther than he has to, knowing that he is safe in doing so because of his powers of intuition.
Why Heimdall Is So Annoying In God of War Ragnarök
His ability to foresee others’ actions makes Heimdall the best boss fight in Ragnarok, which Kratos prepares for by crafting a weapon specifically designed to counteract Heimdall’s power. Being the God of Foresight, Heimdall is perfectly equipped to vex other characters because he can sense their attacks before they happen and evade them in a pompous fashion. Being powerful and having an ability that practically guarantees victory is a potent recipe for a massive ego. Heimdall’s godly abilities aren’t the only thing fueling his annoying over-confidence, however, as his arrogance is boosted by his relationship with the Aesir and Odin, who has a long history of subjugating the people of the Nine Realms.
Heimdall is one of Odin’s many family members in Ragnarok and is often called the Watchman of the Aesir or Odin’s Lap Dog by Mimir. Odin has ruthlessly ruled over the Nine Realms for countless years, eliminating those who threaten him often without a second thought. People fear Odin and the Aesir. This fear instills a sense of vain pride and confidence in the Aesir that Heimdall fully embraces, serving Odin more faithfully than any other. He is emboldened by the perceived safety of serving Odin, which assures him that he can be as foul as he pleases, making him the most annoying god in God of War Ragnarok.
