Is Yami Gautam truly a 'nationalist actor'? The actress recently addressed the label, sparking a conversation about her film choices and the perceptions they create.
During the trailer launch of her upcoming film Haq, Yami Gautam was asked about being called a 'nationalist actor' due to her recent roles. She responded with a mix of humor and pragmatism, revealing her perspective on the labels the public often attaches to her.
Yami's Response: A Matter of Perspective
Yami shared that she wasn't even aware of the 'nationalist' label. She stated, "Label hai, mujhe pata bhi nahi hai. I don’t know. Agar hai toh logon ka kaam hai kuch na kuch kehna." (There’s a label – I don’t even know what it is. If there is one, well, people will always have something to say). She continued by explaining how labels are ever-changing, shifting from one thing to another, and she doesn't dwell on them.
But here's where it gets controversial... Yami's film choices, including projects like Lost, Article 370, Uri: The Surgical Strike, and A Thursday, have led to this categorization. However, Yami believes that each story she tells has its own significance and importance. She emphasized that she is in the entertainment business, catering to diverse audiences. She added, "Koshish rehti hai ek sath logo ko jodne ki, kuch naya, kuch fresh kahaani lane ki" (The effort is always to connect the majority of people together).
And this is the part most people miss... Yami respects the audience's interpretations, saying, "Agar aap kahaani ko dekhte hain, aur aapko acha lage, woh ek achi film hai. Agar aapko kuch aur dimaag me aye, then you are a different kind of audience, and I respect that also." (If you watch a story and like it, then it’s a good film. If you think of something else while watching it, that’s fine too, you’re a different kind of audience, and I respect that).
Yami's Upcoming Project
Fans recently saw Yami in the comedy Dhoom Dhaam. Her next project, Haq, with Emraan Hashmi, is inspired by the 1985 Shah Bano vs Ahmed Khan case. The film also features Vartika Singh, Danish Husain, and Sheeba Chadha. Directed by Suparn S Varma, written by Reshu Nath, and produced by Vineet Jain, Haq is scheduled to release on November 7.
