What can I put in my mini crockpot? ›

If you're cooking for one or two, a 1.5-3 litre pot should give you plenty of space to create some tasty meals. A cooker that's 3-5l will serve three or four people. Any more guests than that (or just big appetites) and you'll need a dish with room for 5-6l.

It is perfectly sized for one person, and is ideal for carrying and warming meals while you're on the go.

For many dishes, particularly soups and stews, you really can just throw all the ingredients in.

Size of your Slow Cooker

The size of your crockpot can affect the outcome of your meal. If your crockpot is smaller than what we recommend, you may need to cook your meal a little longer. If it's larger than what we recommend you may need to shorten the cooking time.

What is the smallest size slow cooker? Generally, the smallest size you're likely to find is around 1.5 quarts, though some brands might have a 1-quart size. At that size, that extra half quart doesn't make much difference.

When we look at the material, it's evident that slow cookers and Crockpots consist of the same three components: Glass lid, pot, and heating element. However, Crockpots generally have ceramic or porcelain pots, while most slow cookers have a metal pot.

Choose the right cut: Chuck roasts, short ribs, pork shoulders and lamb shanks (think fatty and tougher meats) become meltingly tender with the moist, low heat of a slow cooker. Leaner cuts like pork tenderloin tend to dry out. Likewise, dark meat chicken — thighs, drumsticks, etc.

Editor: The short answer is yes. As long as the dish is oven-safe, it can go into your slow cooker. Although by the time you scale down a recipe to fit into a dish small enough to fit in your slow cooker, you may find it easier to cook it in the slow cooker itself. Just be sure to adjust the time accordingly.

To ensure the dinner cooks correctly and doesn't get soggy, decrease the amount of liquids you add. Usually only ½ to 1 cup of liquid does the trick. And, for extra flavorful results, try using liquid like broth, wine, or juice, instead of just plain water.
