Creamy Orange Milkshake
Transform your favorite childhood treat into a creamy, dreamy orange cream shake!
Each glass packs a punch of flavor but has less sugar and fewer calories than many other orange creamsicle milkshake recipes.
The secret? No ice cream! Instead, use your favorite vanilla coffee creamer to create that sweet, creamy swirl.
Plus, this recipe creates four servings so there’s plenty to go around!

Ingredient Notes and Swaps
- Vanilla Coffee Creamer – I use International Delight French Vanilla creamer — the liquid kind from the refrigerated section (near the milk).
Since it makes up the bulk of the liquid in the orange cream shake, the powdered kind won’t work. You can, however, use a different brand!
Dairy-free vanilla creamers will work well too. Or, keep scrolling to learn an easy homemade hack.
- Orange Juice – Stick with storebought for this orange creamsicle recipe. You’ll get a more consistent flavor and you’re guaranteed to have the right amount!
- Whipped Cream – This is what gives this orange milkshake that classic creamsicle flavor.
Either a spray can or a tub of Cool Whip will work, or whip up a quick batch of my homemade recipe.
Best Toppings for an Orange Cream Shake
A few slices of fresh fruit are a simple and pretty garnish for your orange creamsicle shake, and you can’t go wrong with a maraschino cherry on top!
Sprinkles make everything more fun, and you can use regular jimmies or some sanding sugar to give it a little sparkle.
Tips for the Creamiest Orange Creamsicle Milkshake
- Adjust the consistency.
If your shake is too thick, add a little extra liquid as it blends until it’s just right.
But be sure to use milk or extra creamer, not juice, to keep the texture ultra creamy.
- Easy prep.
Freeze multiple batches of juice so you always have some on hand.
Store the solid cubes in a large ziploc bag and use within 6 months for best results.
- Make it more vibrant.
Add two to three drops of food coloring to your orange creamsicle milkshake, then slowly increase the amount as needed until it reaches the desired hue.
- Short on time?
You can pour in the juice as a liquid and use 2 cups of regular ice cubes instead.
Just be aware that the overall flavor of the orange creamsicle shake will be milder and the consistency will be a bit thin.
Orange Creamsicle Recipe FAQ
Can I double this orange milkshake recipe?
Easily increase the amounts for a larger group or reduce them by half if it’s just the two of you.
Depending on the size of your blender, you may need to work in batches to ensure everything is thoroughly combined.
How do I make this orange creamsicle shake without the creamer?
You can create a DIY version by combining 1 cup half and half with ¼ cup powdered sugar and 1 tablespoon vanilla extract.
Can I make a different flavor instead?
Sure! Just swap out the juice with whichever other flavor you’re in the mood for. Pineapple, mango, or a tropical blend would be especially delicious.
Or, try frozen strawberries or raspberries instead of juicy ice cubes.
Enjoy!

Donna’s Notes
If you would like your shakes to appear more orange, add a few drops of orange food coloring.
If you don’t have time to freeze the orange juice, you can use 2 cups of ice cubes in your mixture. Be aware that the flavor will be milder due to the addition of ice.
If you need to substitute the creamer you can use 1 cup half and half, 1/4 cup powdered sugar and 1 tablespoon vanilla extract.
