This Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles-inspired shot is similar to a Scooby Snack Shot without the whipped cream.
The neon green color of this good co*cktail is epic!
For a fun toast, everyone can cheer with Cowabunga!!!!
I heard this a lot growing up in the 80s and 90s when Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles was the cartoon of choice, though we were way too young to have alcohol at that point.
Here are a few Ninja Turtle Quotes if you want additional fun ideas for cheers while enjoying this co*cktail.
"Forgiveness Is Divine, But Never Pay Full Price For A Late Pizza" - Michelangelo
“We’re lean, we’re green, and we’re mean!” – Mikey
“There comes a time, brothers, where history is forged like melted cheese… it sticks together as one, but it’s still soft and squishy in the middle… mmm… are you with me?!” – Michelangelo
Or you could skip the memorization and simply quote their theme song. Lol!

Freezing/How to Freeze:
You can make a frozen version of this neon-green shot by blending the ingredients with ice. Depending on how much you love pineapple, you can use frozen pineapples instead of ice.
Recipe Variations
Substitutions:
We use Malibu, but you can use any coconut rum, including Captain Morgan's, Largo Bay, Bacardi Coco Rum, Blue Chair Bay Coconut Rum, or CocoMania. The coconut flavor is fantastic in this tropical-flavored co*cktail shot.
We use either Dekuyper Melon Schnapps Liqueur or Midori Melon Liqueur to give this shot its distinctive neon green coloring. You can also use Mr. Stacks Sweet Melon.
Vegetarian Option: All of the ingredients in this recipe are vegetarian-friendly.
Vegan Option:
Malibu is not vegan-friendly, so vegans should replace it with vegan coconut rum.
Midori is confirmed to be a vegan-friendly liqueur.
Gluten-Free:
Malibu confirms on its website that its products are gluten-free, and Midori is on Celiac.com’s list of gluten-free liqueurs, making the Ninja Turtle Shot safe for a gluten-free diet.
Alcohol-Free Option:
Replace the Malibu and melon liqueur with alcohol-free alternatives for NA Ninja Turtle Shots. Melon puree works as a non-alcoholic melon liqueur substitute.
Smaller Serving Size:
Split the recipe between two 1-ounce shot glasses or halve the ingredients to make mini Ninja Turtle Shots. The slider in the recipe card below lets you change the serving measurements.
Make It Spicy: We haven’t found a spicy version of this shot.
Larger Group/More Servings:
Double this shot and serve it in an old-fashioned or highball filled with ice glass for a full-sized co*cktail. For a lighter drink, keep the proportions the same and add more pineapple juice.
If you make this co*cktail shot for a party, you can mix all the ingredients in a large jug with a lid. Store the drink in the refrigerator, shaking the jug before serving.
Sugar-Free:
The written recipe contains 7 grams of sugar per shot.
While you can use pineapple juice without added sugar to lower the sugar content, it is not the best option for those who can’t consume sugar, as the alcohol-containing ingredients don’t have sugar-free substitutes.
Tips for the Best Ninja Turtle Shot
- The melon liqueur used will dictate the shade of green your co*cktail becomes. To get the neon green coloring, use a green-colored melon liqueur.
- The proportions for this Ninja Turtle Shot are equal parts of each ingredient. You can decide whether to change any proportions for the perfect sweet flavor you want in your co*cktail.
